An insult is a communication intended to and/or can be perceived as something degrading, offensive, or impolite.
In dialogue, an insult is an expression or statement, often made in an aggressive tone (including passive aggression or sarcasm). Profanity is often used in insults, as are slurs. In actions, a character's behavior or gestures may be an insult as well. Addressing insecurities is a common subject of insult.
Insults may be perceived where one is not intended; an attempt to compliment, flirt, or even gift may come across as an insult if a person has a naïveté, insensitivity, or other unawareness of how their words or actions may offend the recipient(s).
Between first person views and breaking the fourth wall, characters may partake in insulting viewer.
