A young unicorn created by Osamu Tezuka and Sanrio from the eponymous manga series that ran from November 1976 -1979. Unico was first designed by Osamu Tezuka during his trip to Los Angeles sometime in June 1976. He was separated by The Gods (mainly Venus) due to enraging them over having the ability to spread happiness and love to others he meets. In the manga, Unico was the pet of Psyche (The Goddess of Soul) which Venus quickly takes notice and initially separates him from Psyche in the hopes of making her unhappy forever.

Unico is very compassionate, pure, and innocent and believes there are still goodness inside everybody. To the point that his method on defeating a villain is usually non-violent (mainly talking to them) and very empathetic.

He also has the ability to temporarily transform into "The Mighty Unicorn" when someone truly loves him.

In the English dub of the films, Unico was voiced by Barbara Goodson (best-known as voicing Rita Repulsa in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and Laharl in the Disgaea franchise). In the original Japanese version of the films, he was voiced by late voice actress Katsue Miwa.
