Artillery are military weapons that shoot heavy ordnance at infantry and/or tanks. There are typically two types of modern artillery, tube artillery, and rocket artillery. Tube artillery consists of cannons, howitzers, and in some cases mortars. Tube artillery is more accurate, and can be transported by either self propelled means or towed by a separate vehicle. The most common munition used in tube artillery are high explosive (HE) rounds, however white phosphorus, cluster munition, and smoke shells exist and are used by many militaries.

Rocket artillery consists of a single or multiple rockets or missiles, carrying a payload that are launched by a self propelled platform. These rockets can be either guided or unguided, and have a vast variety of ranges going from systems only able to reach below 10 kilometers to ones able to accurately hit targets hundreds of kilometers away.
