The Victorian era is a period of history approximately between 1820 and 1914, the century before World War 1, named after Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom.
The Victorian era is characterized by relatively rapid industrialization of the world, where machines to automate manual labor became widespread. The labor force started shifting from being mostly agricultural to building and maintaining these new machines. This allowed for rapid technological progress as fewer people were required for farming and more people could get an education and push the boundaries of technology. There were even early computers created in this era made of mechanical gears such as the Difference Engine that could perform simple calculations.
The Victorian era overlaps with the time in history where the United States expanded westward, into the area called the Wild West.
