A town is a settlement that is larger than a village but smaller than a city. A town will typically have tens of thousands of residents.
Tagging Notes
- A scene set in a modern town may show a mix of "low" and "medium" density development, with small, multistory buildings for apartments, shops, and other businesses in built up downtown/"Main Street" areas, neighbourhoods of houses, and detached shops/businesses, with buildings becoming more sparse and scattered towards the edges of town
- but lacks the dense high rise development, skyscrapers, and other "big city" features that would make the city tag more appropriate
- This tag can be especially helpful for and commonly applied to depictions of large settlements in fantasy or medieval settings, to distinguish them from more "typical" depictions of a "modern city"
For tagging purposes, a village is a small town, and a city is a large town. If it is hard to tell what kind of town it is, tagging town is always acceptable. Also townscape is an actual theme that should exist. Please only use the cityscape tag when depicting a city, and townscape for other examples.
