vambrace
Forearm armor. Covers the majority of the outer side of the forearm (so as to block blows like a shield). Some are also tubular and encloses the entire forearm. Others are connected to a couter (elbow armor) and gauntlets (hand armor) as part of a full suit of armor (such as plate armor).
Not to be confused with
- bracelet - Especially of the metal cuffs variety. If it doesn't cover most of the forearm then they are these.
- bracers - Armwear worn by archers as protection from accidental self-injury from using bows and their arrows.
- gauntlets - Hand armor. Gauntlets are usually attached to vambraces but they are still two different armor pieces.
