Tagging Guidelines: If a character, species, or item distinct to the SCP Foundation is featured in a post, add the tag scp_foundation and any relevant child tags. If a new tag is created by a site member, sort it under the appropriate folder(s) under Addendums 5078.1, 5078.2, and/or 5078.3. Currently, only a fraction of tags listed on this page implicate scp_foundation.

Description: The SCP Foundation (2007 – present) is an online collaborative writing project and wiki centered around a secret paramilitary and research organization of the same name. Originating from 4chan's /x/ — Paranormal board and mid-to-late 2000s creepypasta culture, the project was primarily horror with science fiction and dark humor undertones, but have grown to cover other subjects such as alternate history, drama, mystery, political commentary, romance, and tragedy. Oh, and porn.

In universe, the SCP Foundation is dedicated to protecting humanity and preserving normalcy, minimizing public knowledge of paranormal activity/violations of known laws of physics. This is achieved by securing, containing, and protecting a vast inventory of anomalous entities, species, objects, locations, phenomena, and even concepts. The overwhelming majority of these anomalies are indexed numerically as an "SCP" (e.g. SCP-173), standing for "Special Containment Procedures" as each has dedicated methods to be held at the SCP Foundation's covert and clandestine facilities (or suppressing knowledge, in the case of the intangible or otherwise uncontainable). SCP objects are classified by their difficulty to contain and (in more recent writings) ranked by their risk to individuals and potential to disrupt normalcy. The focus of the SCP Foundation Wiki are the SCP entries, being primarily told through articles written in the style of after-action reports and clinical research papers, but more traditional storytelling (or "Tales") comprise the remainder.

Addendum 5078.1: SCP tags
As of March 10th, 2024, is open to Series IX and approaching 9,000 SCP entries. Most are catalogued in series of every thousand, but there are some side series that do not follow this organization method:

  • Archived SCPs — Old and often subpar SCPs that would otherwise be deleted but are preserved for posterity.
  • Explained SCPs — SCPs once considered anomalous, but are now recognized as physics-abiding natural phenomenon following scientific breakthroughs.
  • Joke SCPs — Humor-focused SCPs, often parodies of media, including the SCP wiki itself.

Below is a semi-comprehensive lists of all tags for SCP objects (or closely associated anomalies without SCP designation) denoted by their nature as character tags, species tags, or general tags.

Note: Some "SCPs" are unofficial, originating from fans on websites such as Amino and DeviantArt. There has been a history of using numbers beyond the Series open, which overtime have been surpassed and now used an official SCP. Henceforth, fan characters not found on the SCP Wikidot will be denoted with "🐾" and their creator cited in format of "(©<name here idiot>)".

Addendum 5078.2: Other Tags
The SCP Foundation is comprised of hundreds of thousands of personnel, who serve various roles of conducting observational research, combating and containing threats, use in human experimentation, and administration of the former. The SCP Foundation is not the only group of characters in the setting, as its members regularly interact with various groups or persons of interest of activist, financial, performative, political, and/or religious motivations.

Note: Due to some characters being anomalous and contained or even employed by the Foundation, there is some overlap with the SCP tags listed in Addendum.5078.1.

Addendum 5078.3: Beyond scp-wiki.wikidot.com

The SCP Foundation wiki originated with American and British writers, and was and still is a predominantly English media. In June 2010, Russian fans created their own spin-off site translating and writing new SCPs in their native language, which came to be recognized by the original "English Branch" as the Russian Branch; this set a president for writers from around the world to make their own Foreign Branches, and the English-speakers created the SCP International Wiki, dedicated to being a hub to the Foreign Branches and translating their works into English. As of October 2024, there are 15 branches recognized as official and well established, 5 as developing, and an "Underrepresented Language Incubator" on the International hub to host languages without a Wikidot site.

The English Branch has sister sites of its own, including Wanderers' Library for fantasy storytelling, 05 Command for administrative staff to discuss site policies and disciplinary actions, and sandboxes for writers to experiment in. The SCP Foundation also has official social media accounts and forums.

Foreign Branches
SCP Foundation French Branch (SCP-FR)
SCP Foundation German Branch (SCP-DE)
SCP Foundation Italian Branch (SCP-IT)
SCP Foundation Japanese Branch (SCP-JP)
SCP Foundation Korean Branch (SCP-KO)
SCP Foundation Russian Branch (SCP-RU)
SCP Foundation Spanish Branch (SCP-ES)
SCP Foundation Traditional Chinese Branch (SCP-ZH)

A motto among writers on the SCP Foundation Wiki is "There is no canon". This refers to how, due to hundreds of authors over the years and no series bible, there is no unified continuity. Any two SCP entries at random will most likely not have any connection between each other, if not outright contradicting details. Even some of the most prominent story elements are not universal, as they could be absent or altered by the writer. Readers and writers are encouraged to form their own "soft canons" using personal opinion and interpretation. These "soft canons" are sometimes made more concise when they are established as "Canons"; general storylines made by an author or several in collaboration, with a hub page providing an index, outline, and guide to contribution. Some Canons are self-contained and effectively an alternate universe, while others may overlap with one another (and, again, lead to contradictions upon scrutiny).

The SCP Foundation has also been given adaptations to other media, including republications in books to original indie stories in video games, animation, and comics.
