staggering (layout)

Staggering is an image layout term that refers to a situation when rows (horizontally-aligned), or columns (vertically-aligned) image frames/panels share a common edge (an unbroken line between adjacent frames), but the positions at which the image frames meet on that common edge do not form an intersection/grid pattern. In other words, there is a common edge, but the shapes of the panels do not meet in the same areas along that common edge.
Tagging notes
Staggering only occurs along the border between adjacent image frames. The intersection where the border terminates does not apply towards this tag's definition.
post #3289679 This example has horizontal staggering in it, but not vertical staggering, because the border is terminated by the top row.
Extra note: A little extra border space can be ignored for the purposes of layout tagging.
Categories
- horizontal_staggering - The staggering occurs along a horizontal border.
- vertical_staggering - The staggering occurs along a vertical border.
- staggered_grid - The image frames appear to form a grid, but the intersections of the image frames do not line up.
- staggered_grid_layout - The entire image layout consists of a staggered grid. This should not be confused with a typical grid layout.
