A flying car, sometimes called a "hover car", is an flying vehicle that serves the same function as a car. Flying cars are a mainstay in futuristic/science fiction settings, often seen hovering above streets, or flying around futuristic cityscapes.

In many cases, the flying cars of science fiction are visually identical to modern day automobiles (or rather, futuristic cars, modelled after current trends), or sometimes even patterned after "classic" or vintage cars from the 1950s to 1990s, albeit with wheels replaced by some mechanism that allows the vehicle to hover and fly.
