Felidae is a best-selling German series of 8 novels by Akif Pirinçci starting in 1989. The series focuses on a housecat named Francis, who moves into a new neighborhood only for brutal murders of other cats living there to begin taking place, leading Francis and his new acquaintances to investigate. Only three of the novels would be translated into English - Felidae, Felidae II: Felidae on the Road, and Felidae V: Salve Roma!. (Yes, books 3 and 4 were completely skipped for unknown reasons.)
The first book was later adapted into a 1994 German adult animated film in the murder mystery genre. Felidae was the most expensive animated film to produce in Germany to date, costing over 10 million DM (or 5 million USD) to produce. Unfortunately, the film flopped at the box office due to poor marketing, though it would become a cult classic. The English dub of the film was only ever released in an English-speaking country on a hard to find VHS release in Australia, though the dub was included in German and French DVDs. Most English-speaking fans of the film would discover it through the countless reuploads of the English dub on YouTube. However, it was announced that the film would finally be released in the United States in 2024 by Deaf Crocodile, as an Ultra HD Blu-ray. This is the film's first official American release after 30 years.
