Species: zerg queen (starcraft)
Zerg Queens are a Zerg Support Unit introduced in Starcraft 2 to replace the Swarm Queen from the original Starcraft. Much like a Xenomorph Queen or a Insect Queen, Queen's are extremely intelligent and Sapient Zerg units capable of communicating with other Sapient beings telepathically. Zerg Queens oversee Hives and other similar nest structures and were created by The Queen of Blades to act as an extension of her will in a similar fashion to the Overmind's Cerebrates.
They attack ground units with their large claws and air units with powerful spines. Particularly large and powerful Zerg Queens may become Broodmothers, who are often in charge of single handedly conquering a planet in the name of the Zerg Swarm with their offspring. The first and most powerful Broodmother is known as Zagara.
When terrans first saw this queen, the universal reaction was that someone had taken a centaur from human legend, replaced the torso with a section of a centipede, and replaced the lower, equine part with a giant crab.
They have the ability to vomit a a thick, protein-based substance that stimulates cellular growth, achieved via mitotic enzymes, which induces rapid regeneration of biological units. They can lay creep tumors to spread the creep and by extension the potential size of their base. They can also lay eggs onto their base structure to cause it increase the maximum number of Zerg Units they can spawn at once.
