Species: bulbasaurus (genus)
Bulbasaurus is an extinct prehistoric genus of geikiid dicynodont. It is monotypic, as so-far the only known species is Bulbasaurus phylloxyron. It and its type species were defined by archaeologists Roger M.H. Smith & Christian F. Kammerer in 2017.
The taxonomic name translates to "bulbous reptile" as, officially, the genus was named for its nasal bosses, which are unusually bulbous among geikiids. Dr. Kammerer stated "similarities between this species and certain other squat, tusked quadrupeds may not be entirely coincidental", as it certainly appears to be named after the Pokémon species, Bulbasaur.
