A firefighter (sometimes written fire fighter) is the profession for a person whose main vocation is firefighting, but who is also able to offer a range of different types of assistance, such as: floods, accidents, rescues, helping kittens stuck in a tree, etc...

Their primary mission is: to protect people, property and the environment, and to extinguish fire.

The term for men is "fireman" and for women is "firewoman".
(Although the name of the female equivalent is very rarely used, as a general rule: the most commonly used term is just "firefighter").
