A mecha musume is a female character who is wearing clothing, accessories, armor, and/or cybernetics that are themed after a particular machine such as a mecha, a robot, a vehicle, an appliance or electronics. The machine in question can either be something from real life (from a sports car model to a kitchen appliance) or from a particular copyrighted work (such as a famous spacecraft or mech).
In other interpretations mecha musume can also refer to female characters donning armor evoking a typical Japanese mecha aesthetic with no reference to an original machine and is just a stand alone design.
Not to be confused with
- Humanoidized - The machine is depicted with humanoid traits. Difference between this and mecha musume is that this one is basically a humanoid robot while the other one is clothed/armored like the original machine.
- Living Machine - Basically an anthropomorphic form of the original machine. Similar in concept to an anthro.
