chess piece
A chess piece is game piece that is used to play the game of chess. Chess pieces are placed atop a chess board and usually come in black and white variants to represent the two players.
In a standard game of chess, each player begins with the following pieces:
- 1 king ♚
- 1 queen ♛
- 2 rooks ♜ (sometimes known as "castles")
- 2 bishops ♝
- 2 knights ♞ (sometimes known as "horses")
- 8 pawns ♟
