The core figure of the first Central Leadership Group of the Communist Party of China from 1949 to 1976, which he served as the Chairman of the People's Republic of China. Mao initiated the Cultural Revolution in 1966, a decade-long movement that ended on 10, 1976, when he died at age 83 in Beijing. Considered one of the most significant figures in modern world history, Mao been named among Time Magazine's list of the 100 most influential people of the 20th century.
