Space Marines (also known as Space Rangers) are a type of soldier found in science fiction. They specialize in extraterrestrial combat operations, boarding enemy spacecraft and planetary invasions. A similar role fulfilled by what regular marines are to the sea and ships. Due to the environment that they fight on, most space marines are depicted wearing armored space suits. Often in the form of power armor. They're often rapidly deployed to the battlefield via a specialized craft called "dropships" which are capable of atmospheric entry. These, obviously, are based on real-world marines and their landing crafts.
