Species: kangaroo rat

Similar to the kangaroo mouse, the term "kangaroo rat" refers to a genus of small New-World bipedal rodents, Dipodomys, found in in western North America. Despite superficial similarities it is not related to murid rodents (such as mice or rats) or dipodid rodents (such as jerboas) and is part of its own family, Heteromyidae. They share the subfamily of dipodomyinae with the kangaroo mice.
