When a character is grasping, carrying or supporting an inanimate object — typically this applies to a character holding an object in their hand.

General guidelines

This tag has generally used for holding things in one's hands/arms, or anatomy that very similar takes the role of one's hands/arms (e.g. a character has wings/forelegs/tentacles in place of their arms). Prehensile anatomy holding is typically tagged outside of this tag based on the anatomy specific holding tags. This may change in the future. In the time being, try to prioritize use of the anatomy specific tags/tag formats below.

For holding objects in the mouth, use mouth_hold, and object_in_mouth. Use [specific object]_in_mouth for specific objects.
For prehensile holding themes, use [anatomy]_holding_object.

Handling groups of objects

- Individual objects in a collection of held objects may be tagged individually. For instance if a character is holding a plate, with a cake on it, both holding_plate, and holding_cake will be applicable.
- Less useful to tag components of objects individually. For instance, it probably doesn't make sense to tag holding_frosting, holding_strawberry, and holding_cake for a cake with strawberry frosting.

Handling beverages

Both the beverage, and the container it comes in may receive holding tags. Less commonly done, but sometimes the type of beverage receives a holding tag (i.e. holding_soda). The tag holding_beverage will cover all types of beverages.

Object handling

• dual_holding - A character is holding an object in each hand.
• dual_wielding - Same concept, except restricted to weapons.
• holding_object_above_head
