That depends on what you mean by 'respect.'
If you mean 'respect as an authority' or some other form of respect as looking up to someone, then yeah, I'd absolutely agree respect is earned.
But I'm talking about respecting someone as a human being.

No man gets respect for merely existing. Even in social settings, people will only respect you when they have reason to do so. Those who demand respect from others will almost never get it.

Either you're still misunderstanding what I mean by 'respect' in this instance or I don't ever want to be near you in person.

I think there is a mix-up betweeen respect and faith here. Mostly because there is no such thing as "respect as a human being", that is instead "faith in a human being".
Respect is a choice, and it is either given or earned. Faith is an absolute, it either is there for X, or it is not. They can coalign, a being can possess both, but they can be intentionally drawn separately: I put faith that a troubled person will fight for a good reason; I put respect into the people that I've known have fought for good reasons.
Allow me to put it into context: I cannot give my respect to a trans person, as they have not earned it, but I can put faith in them as they are no more human than I am. I will treat them like a human, for I know they are human, but I cannnot give respect to them because I do not know them.
But by all regards, take this for a grain of salt. Maybe it was my problems that taught me to treat these two feelings as separate, but it feels better than trying to say they're the same.

I was talking about respect more as in the sense of respecting a person's boundaries. You know, the basic level of respect necessary to not be a dick at someone who you've never met and thus don't have any reason to have any opinions of.

But what you're calling respect is what I know as faith. Calling them the same word is making a potato-potahto argument, when what you're describing isn't actually the same thing. If there is a difference, then why not call it something different that'll more closely match what you're saying?

The same word can mean very different things to two different people even when they're talking about very similar concepts, to be honest? I use respect because that's what it IS to me. Respect does imply a level of deference, I suppose, but that sort of IS what it is in this case; It's just a different LEVEL of it than what you're talking about, or at least that's how I've gotten used to thinking about it.

But you're still in a potato-potahto argument due to two people using the word in the way they mean, being different to the other. I mean, BlueDingo brought up a third word that has a subtle difference, any one of the two can solve the miscommunication provided by calling "everything" respect.

I'm not saying I refuse to use a different word just for clarity when speaking about it here, I'm just explaining that calling it respect made sense to me when I first said it.

always find it hilarious when people talk shit about trans being a "mental illness" or throw it around everywhere cause it's the new thing to talk about in their little pop culture. so wanting your junk swapped is a mental illness cause it differs from the norm, but jacking off to animal people or worshiping an imaginary spaghetti monster isn't a "mental illness". if you niggas gonna start defining shit that differs from the norm as mental illness and not addictive/destructive traits, shit, ya'll throwing bricks in this glass house.

How about some citations to go with that?
Debating what the definitions of 'respect' and 'courtesy' etc isn't anything but a red herring, until you demonstrate that your initial claim has substance.

Some citations that Treos gets upset by the idea of trans people wanting people to not be antagonistic towards them over their transness? Mind, I'm asking because if that is indeed what you're talking about, it's easy enough to find evidence of it just by looking at earlier pages of this thread. You, I, and/or Treos may disagree with the way I'm phrasing it, but the principle still applies.

so...my complaining about how people seem to think me doing something i like and want to do is bad and wrong and would hurt me in the long term is somehow trans and respect related.
i didn't even say anything remotely related to transgender and yet the topic still started getting discussed again. i'm not sure if i should be annoyed by or laugh at these posts that came after my last one. cause i certainly didn't say anything that would lead to this...this time.

Your claim, your responsibility to support it with specific citations (not handwaving 'it's easy to find evidence' - specific posts with specific claims that you are saying represent Treos "trash talking trans people for wanting to be treated with respect").
If you don't, people would be quite justified in thinking it may just be a personal attack.

As much as I disagree with Treos on the issue as a whole, I am going to have to say here that accusations do require citations. If they are easy to find, then you should have no trouble getting them. Yes, I'm technically defending someone I disagree with, but whoever is right, claiming infallibility isn't the way to do it. It only hurts the very people you are trying to help.
I'll just leave it like this. Martin Luther King Jr. did a lot more good than Malcolm X.

That was cancerous, I had a hard time reading all of that steaming pile. The funny thing is you can get an idea of how these people think by reading that article.
>Be a neo-marxist libtard
>Solar eclipse passes over the US
>The US is about 63% "white" 37% non-white
>Eclipse passes over states with a majority white population
>Equality of outcome not achieved
>Cause: White supremacy
>Solution: Redistribute power(electoral votes) from white supremacist(white republican states)
>Action to be taken
>Write an article about the eclipse passing over mostly white states
>Bring up history of the states to instill white guilt and/or cause animosity towards whites
>Bring up the fact that these states have a lot of electoral votes
>Desired outcome
>Enrage neo-marxist libtards so they demand an end to "white supremacy"( i.e. take votes from republican states so power is redistributed to more populated libtard states)
I love how they used the solar eclipse as an opportunity to write a propaganda filled pile of shit. I need to learn how to pilot a helicopter.

This. You don't have to be a professional 3D animator to know that body parts aren't supposed to go through each other yet pointing that out leads to fanboys yelling at me for not doing better.
Speaking of bad 3d animation (and because the facepalm thread is locked), animators who can't do jiggle physics right. I swear, the shielas in these animation have spring-loaded tits half of the time and start flailing about when anything (including the camera) changes position.

Honestly, I think the underlying thing is that people are really bad at taking critique, and feel as if they must defend their fandom like it was them.
"You're not qualified to.." is just one of many trite defenses. It really is not much different than 'Yeah, well.. Your Mom!' in terms of tone and level of content. Too pathetic for me to get angry at, personally.
If they really liked the art, they should want the artist to learn in what ways they failed, not be immune to criticism. You don't learn shit from success.
(There is a genuine parallel here to religious icons, IMO. I mean, that's really comical when applied to porn, but nonetheless, it's basically the same kind of behaviour.)

A lot makes me angry nowadays. From the people that cry and moan all the time "we don't have" when they do. To the people who bully others on the internet. Then get mad and cry when they get attacked themselves. It was funny at first. But my goodness, how people have taken it a bit too far.
Then there's the people who have documents forged just to gain employment in an profession or what-have-you. People like that really make me angry. Because they don't have enough dedication for the profession to get training and work their way to the top. They are kind who always balk at the idea of book reading and shun at people who went through programs to enhance or gain knowledge about what's in the profession.

To be honest it all makes no sense. Because really people disguise hate speech videos as rants. Also a good majority of the back and forths in the comment sections are between alternate accounts and Dr Jekyll & Mr Trolls. I mean, the alarm bells should start ringing. When you go to the instigator's channel and see that they are a Gay-nazi-christian-atheist. That loves Game Grumps, Pewdipie, anime and Obama!

Sounds like you might benefit from cultivating more assertiveness. IME if you do not actively + consistently assert your boundaries, people (especially parents) tend to act as if you don't have them.

Somehow got myself in a drudge.
With the way this world seems to be going, I'm honestly just so perplexed as to why a lot of people seem to be very submissive and purposely ignorant when it comes to how to effectively solve a problem. History has all to well pointed out that simply ignoring a problem, pretend that it doesn't exist and/or overflow it with actions that do not directly solve the problem head on doesn't work, or just exacerbate the situation. Why is it that people are scared of attempting to find a solution to something or at least mediate it so it isn't as bad as it once was? Do people just lack accountability, refuse to put something into it without their 'fair share'?
It's only when its too late when people begin to care and find solutions when it may affect them in some way, but why is it like this?

Last time I tried to stand up for myself, my parents threatened to have me committed for Psychosis, using my Autophobia as leverage. And they took advantage of the fact that I use analysis as a coping method and know no other constructive methods, by targeting something about me that is inherently irrational, preventing the ability to look at something analytically and therefore making absolutely sure I could not cope.
One effect this has had is that my ability to disagree with them has worsened. Even my thoughts are affected. I believe in terms of family roles, I may have switched with one of the dogs. And it's my fault because I saw it happening, knew it was happening, and let it happen to me.

I believe in free will. If a person wakes up with pangs of hate in their heart, that's their right and business. It's wrong in a way. However, it is their mind and vessel. I'm in charge of mine and mine only. But if there are standards set against this in certain places. Then we are required to mind what we say aloud. Otherwise face the consequences of our actions. Only we are in charge of what we say and when. Some places are just not the right places.
Hate speeches can be about anything really. Just like an extremist. A person who gives a hate speech about Google or grapes. Is not doing anything wrong or causing harm. As long as they don't go into race, sex, and other things on the no-no list. If one has to get fired or pay a hefty fine for ranting about something on the no-no list. Whose to blame for their actions?

No at all. And I don't agree with the whole monetizing thing anyway. It's what ruined YouTube to be honest.
The whole thing shows me the mentality of common day society's children. Because there are more kids trolling and writing all that stuff then one would realize. Half of them don't even know what albinoism, transgender, and homophobia is. Damn little kid came out of the closet in a YouTube comment section. By announcing that he was a "proud homophobic" on an yaoi video. I don't blame these kids. I blame the parents. Why in the hell would you let a kid use the internet unattended? Especially one doesn't have a concept of words and their meanings.

you know that video i linked in the happy thread about the false rape accuser getting 10 years in jail? well...

and the article's title? "Jemma Beale lied about being raped - but was sentenced by a flawed system"
so yeah, a flase rape accuser gets what she deserves for once and yet she's still the victim and was sentenced by a flawed legal system... according to the guardian.
edit: confused...
seems youtube has a new layout that... why is everything now so large and taking up so much more space?
oops, looks like i caught my task bar in the 2nd pic. oh well, nothing of particular interest there.
anyway, compare that new side bar on the left to this old version.
the new version has things much more spaced apart and larger text (odd) and a number of links removed from that side bar on the left.
i wonder what other changes youtube plans to blindside us with.
edit2: ok, looks like you can click your avatar pick and revert to the old youtube layout...for now.
i say "for now" because everyone knows google isn't going to let that go for long before they start forcing the new layout on everyone whether they want it or not.

When I check out a game's leaderboard and the scores look something like this:
1st: 9.223372036854775808e18
2nd: 135665
3rd: 135620
4th: 135608
Because that top score is definitely legit and totally didn't involve hacking. Even worse when you find out the person who "achieved" that score hasn't unlocked a single achievement from the game yet when you're guaranteed to have several by this point.

AEP. They were finally bringing back the power to my neighborhood after four days, little by little. I was told by a neighbor that some nearby lights on a connected street came on, and he was right, they DID come on. I waited outside, watching as the power slowly came back to us, I watched as the lights of the streetlights and porchlights approached closer and closer...
But wait! It was in the evening, getting late, and just before they brought the power to the last little bit of my neighborhood (the side of the street I happen to live on), they just... stopped. The lights stopped coming back. After four days, four days without power, they were sooooo close to bringing it back, and AEP just apparently decided to up and leave for the evening.
They were so fucking close to bringing it back, just one little bit of the neighborhood, but NOOOO, they just left us because their work was done for the day. It was just one little bit of the neighborhood left, surely they could've gotten that little part wrapped up in the time it took for each street to come back online. Apparently not, apparently their work schedule is more important than the people who are suffering in this damned summer heat, not being able to do anything since they're dead in the water.
They're most likely not going to be back here to finish what they started until tommorrow afternoon. They scouted to find any damage, surely there was nothing wrong with our power lines if they were bringing this much back this quickly, I fail to see an excuse as to why this is happening.
And if any of this sounds like me overreacting, I most likely am, and it's most likely caused by not being able to get any good sleep for the past half-week on account of the heat.

i wish people would stop using adf.ly for download links. pretty much every time i click an adf.ly link i see nothing but malvertisements and a message asking me to disable my adblocker.
1. there is no fucking way i will EVER disable my adblock for what i KNOW is a malvertisement service.
and 2. even with Ublock Origin + Disconnect + self-destructing cookies all turned on AND that message, i STILL see malvertisements when i click an adf.ly link!
seriously, how despearate for pennies can you be to rely on such a shitty service? if i find a download link on youtube and it's a adf.ly link redirecting to somewhere like mediafire, i'll grab the mediafire link and leave it in the comments so people don't have to risk the safety and security of their PCs clicking that adf.ly link.
i usually use http://animecruzers.io for my source of subbed dragon ball super episodes every week and they use a link shortener called moe.st. no ads, no malvertisements anywhere ever.
also bad is when you see a download link on youtube and it leads to a shady file hosting service that hides downloads behind a survey... they ain't getting my personal info for nothing.

there's an Adfly skipper available for Firefox and Google Chrome, so you don't have to deal with Adfly anymore.

DuckDuckGo can unshorten those links. Just search "expand " then the URL.

oh yeah... i forgot about that. someone left a link to a link unshortener in response to one of my disqus comments.
edit: Search Engines Will Open Systems to Prove Piracy & VPN Blocking
wow, russia's government really doesn't like the internet, huh? though i guess that's not too surprising.
between this and china's "great firewall", it's a wonder people of those countries can access anything from the rest of the world at all.
makes me wonder why they're so determined to isolate themselves from the rest of the world.
edit: California's Transgender Pronoun Bill Imposes $1,000 Fine and/or 1 Year in Prison For Misgendering
California Could Start Jailing People Who Don’t Use Transgender Pronouns
"The law is currently limited in its effects to nursing homes and intermediate-care facilities, but if passed, those who “willfully and repeatedly” refuse “to use a transgender resident’s preferred name or pronouns” could be slapped with a $1,000 fine and up to one year in prison, according to the California Heath and Safety code."
"those who “willfully and repeatedly” refuse “to use a transgender resident’s preferred name or pronouns”"
guess the cops better get ready to start handing out fines and arresting those of us who know there is only male and female and don't have any desire to use fictional pronouns.

I really wish certain people would stop trying to get rid of Father's Day.

CNN's Hurricane Insanity Goes Full Libtard!
i don't think i need to say much for how dumb this is... i mean...wow @ the hurricane part. and then they have an article about how we should stop sending women to prison entirely? wtf...
(BBC section) oh my goodness... ugh...
3:54 i'm sorry, what? wtf? no...
4:04 what? am i truly one of the last normal, sane, people in a world of madness being run by the insane and...dumb? cause it feels like it after hearing about stuff like this.
4:35 enough, i can't watch anymore of this garbage.
what is it going to take for people to relearn that we humans are, in fact, NOT a gender neutral species and that the males of our species are biologically incapable of menstruating like the females of our species do? this is just ridiculous...
edit: i may be gay but at this point, i'd be just fine if no one ever used that acronym and my name in the same sentence ever again. feels like i've grown up and now live in the twilight zone cause the world we live in today is VASTLY different and more fucked up than the one i was born in.
so yeah, from now on, either use LGB when referring to me or nothing at all cause i want nothing to do with the complete and utter insanity that comes with the LGBT+ acronym.

0:10-0:14 - Since when do cyclones have genders?
1:43-1:48 - 'Coz that's totally not sexist and totally won't lead to women causing crimes at a much higher rate and getting away scot-free.
1:59-2:10 - Yeah, look at that total lack of gender equality. We should implement a gender quota in the prisons to help ensure equal representation amongst the genders.
2:39-2:43 - Wait, isn't this an older story?
3:29-3:34 - What about all the kids who find not being called that offensive? I guess their opinions don't matter.
3:39-3:46 - So? What they identify as doesn't change what they are.
3:51-3:59 - Anal bleeding is not menstruation, nor is it common enough to need access to tampon dispensers.
4:10-4:16 - It's also a waste of money.
4:51-4:59 - Funny how the distinction between sex and gender suddenly doesn't exist when it comes to identification.

The thing that really gets me about this question is at least to me the answer seems obvious;
Cars have a singular insurance package that is a combination of both.

In terms of the furry community, I'm pretty accustom to their level of imagination and commitment to their fetish/personality.
People who honestly believe that they are genetically related to real dragons/wolves, kind of piss me off. Just because they are clearly insane.
People who think that their fursona is a perfect, scientific expression of themselves, kinda piss me off too. Because, it really isn't, it's just an expression of what you want to be.

Yeah, that's why I don't count myself in any fandoms. I dig shit like any human, but some people take it way too far.
The scientific otherkin are just like the supernatural ones. It's weird and nuts but at least they're not doing anything wrong; and the vast majority seem to be kids.
You're dead on with the latter. The more someone sucks and doesn't strive to improve, the more they retreat into fantasy. It's sad, really. Just stop being lame and do the shit you want irl. Get out of your box. Rather negative reflection on my part, but I find that shit hilarious rather than upsetting or sad.

People forwarding chain messages. Newest being that "FaceBook use will cost money."
At least this one isn't trying to guilt trip, but I thought people would have had some modicum of realization when they didn't occur.

I've never received a chain letter before. Not sure if that makes me lucky or lonely...
Edit: This is more annoying than angering, but... Repetitive lyrics in songs, especially when it's the same 5-10 words over and over again.
I whip my hair back and forth.
I whip my hair back and forth.
I whip my hair back and forth.
I whip my hair ba- ALRIGHT! WE FUCKIN' GET IT!
Other offenders include "Black And Yellow" by Wiz Khalifa and "Nigga Nigga Nigga" by Gangsta Rap. As a general rule, if the song repeats itself too much within the first ten seconds, I just switch it off. Even "This Is The Song That Doesn’t End" from Lamb Chop's Play-Along isn't that repetitive, and that one doesn't end.
