Topic: Inconsistencies regarding the succubus, succubi, incubus, incubi, and demon tags

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

"Succubi" is the plural of "succubus", yet the former is aliased to "demon", while the latter is not.

"Incubus" and "incubi" are the male version of succubi, and they (the tags) are also aliased to "demon".

To maintain consistency, shouldn't either "succubus" be aliased to "demon" as well, or the other tags be unaliased?

Updated

it actually seems like there was an alias created for succubus back when Dice was going through and aliasing away all of the gendered species tag names we still had knocking around.

the alias was active for at least a year and a half and then at some point after November of 2020 the tag got restored, and I can't find a BUR that did it, so it seems like another admin decided that tag was valid on their own after another had previously aliased it away.

those aliases were all created unceremoniously by a former admin, and there was no listed reason for the aliases themselves, so IDK why it happened. however, there are/were topics discussing what to do with these tags:

topic #28994
topic #28766
topic #24704
topic #22792
topic #20009
topic #4669

And yet "incubus" and "succubi" are still aliased to "demon", while "succubus" is not. I have not thoroughly read every discussion, but it seems to me that the last proposal to alias "succubus" to "demon" was rejected merely because a previous (to that one) proposal rejected it.

Again, either: a1) they should all be aliased to "demon"; a2) a "sex(ual) demon" or "lust demon" tag should be created that includes both succubi and incubi; b) "succubi"/"incubi" should be aliased to "succubus"/"incubus", with the latter unaliased.

We want the tagging system to be logical and consistent, do we not?

Sorry for playing necromancer on this topic, but I'm honestly with them. Despite the left character below clearly being a male demon, and seems appropriate for the incubus tag, the tag itself is still aliased to demon so it had to be tagged with succubus instead.

I wouldn't say it is. It's a canid with a spade tail, at best the hellhound tag could apply, but there's nothing to say it's an incubus aside from being dominant in a sexual situation. If being a sexual dom is all that was needed to be an incubus or succubus, most demons here would classify. In various myths, succubus/incubus take energy or the life force from their victims through sexual activity, but most porn just treats them as horny or sex-addict demons, which isn't a very well-distinguished feature here.

it-- it "had" to be tagged as succubus? why not just tag it as demon?

Both good points.
