News: Feb 26, 2025 Show

Feb 26th:A new bill in Arizona is making its way through the Senate that would force sites like e621 to implement mandatory age verification for all users—or face potential lawsuits. This system would require third-party vendors to verify every user’s age through a government database. Not only is this a massive violation of privacy, but it also introduces serious risks, including identity theft through phishing schemes and other malicious methods. Worse still, we would have no control over ensuring that user data is permanently deleted after verification.

Since e621 operates out of Arizona, this law would almost certainly impact us if it passes. If you want to help ensure that we can continue serving you without being forced to collect personal information, we urge you to contact Arizona’s senators and ask them to vote NO on this bill.

Please help spread the word about this issue and encourage others to take action.
Further information on the bill itself can be found at the Free Speech Coalition: https://action.freespeechcoalition.com/bill/arizona-hb-2112/

Description

The colored version of this post was removed (post #2440692) shortly after I posted sound version of it and so was my audio edit of the sound version. This time, I modified the audio to fit the original black-and-white version of it. I also made sure to render at highest quality with minimal amount of compression (visually lossless compression according to ffmpeg). Hopefully this will fall within e621's rules and not get removed.

Why was the colored version taken down? I must have missed this.

Dunno why. There's nowhere in the uploading guidelines that says third-party edits are against the rules. Hell, we even have a tag for it, but for some reason this particular animation by Ajin gets targeted for takedown every time someone uploads a colored edit. Indeed, the previous one was removed for being an "Inferior or Duplicate" despite the quality being well within the same range of standards put forth by other edits, and also despite there being no other version of this animation with both sound AND color.

    By artist's request, most likely?

Then it probably would've been shown as being removed by DNP request, not "inferior/duplicate", and I can't find any takedown request/avoid posting entry for Ajin, so I don't believe that's the case.

Based on the flag details, and the comments, it seems like it was something to do with compression, which is the usual reason it seems Mairo takes things down. I mean, if the video that was edited was downloaded from Twitter, then that would probably explain it. Honestly it does feel weird to me that such a big edit would be removed on those grounds, but that seems to be the reason?

I mean I figured that was probably the reason but was hesitant to bring it up because I've criticized him in the past a few times that I'm afraid I might get hit with a negative record for harassment or something for continually doing it... but anywho... I feel like his standards regarding compression and artifacts on uploads borders on ludicrous as a majority of people aren't going to notice or care. Like, it's cool he's really knowledgeable about that stuff, but I feel like unless it's actually an upload that was already present on the site and it's worse quality... then it should be allowed to stay. Again, there's not a single upload of this animation here that's both colored and has sound (actually there isn't even a colored version period).

If it turns out the colored versions have been getting removed because of that one rule about not uploading third-party colors of "Base" template pictures when the original artist has not colored them, I'm going to be flabbergasted. That rule to me reads as pertaining mainly to "Your Character Here" types of uploads where it's quite understandable that you don't wanna see several different colored variations of the same character template, but this is an animation that is 7-years-old at this point. Ajin is never going to go back and color it.

Ajin gave permission for the edit, I asked him directly via Twitter DM, as well as to the commissioner/client.

Edit: Correction, permission was for this animation but not specifically the colored version of it.

Reading Mairo's post there... if it's really the case of the colored edits being based on a "paywalled" version and, thus, are DNP, but people can't use lower res version either because it'd be flagged as "inferior", then I guess we're just fucked outta luck then. Getting rid of the 2-year exemption rule for paysite content really fucked up the credibility of this site being considered an "archive" imo, but I guess I can't blame e621 for not wanted to get fucked in the ass by copyright law.

I just wish I downloaded the colored version...

Well, links for other hosting sites where you could download it appear to still be available in the description of the deleted post

Don't know why it got removed, it's the best version I've found so far.

This one's alright too, but there's no color, and the t-rex sounds kind of overpower everything else.

    Thanks, man. :D
I'm inclined to agree with you on the audio. It's more relaxed and oddly passionate and less emphatic about the Dino noises.
