Sandy Cheeks is a character from the Nickelodeon-produced animated series SpongeBob SquarePants created by Stephen Hillenburg. She is a female anthropomorphic squirrel with brown fur, black eyes, and buckteeth. She speaks with a thick Southern American accent. While she is a native of the surface world, specifically Texas, she lives in Bikini Bottom with the other aquatic characters from the series. She accomplishes this by living in a sealed glass dome on the ocean floor with a tree inside to provide her air to breathe. When she leaves the tree dome she is almost always seen in a white diving suit with grey boots and a glass helmet with a pink flower on top. When in her tree dome, she often wears a purple bikini.

Sandy is a staple character in SpongeBob SquarePants, first appearing in the third episode of the series Tea at the Treedome and making numerous appearances after as one of SpongeBob's best friends and occasional romantic interest. She is a scientist and an inventor, creating many machines and gadgets which often are misused by SpongeBob and Patrick. She is a karate enthusiast and an adrenaline junky, being a fan of extreme sports and other dangerous recreational activities. While she is generally a nice and well meaning person, she also tends to be prideful and stubborn, believing very strongly in her physical abilities and intelligence and getting offended when those things are challenged.
