anterior nasal aperture
The anterior nasal aperture (also known as the piriform or pyriform aperture) is a heart- or pear-shaped opening in the skull, usually found in the skulls of humans and primates. In living characters, it is typically not visible, as it is covered by a cartilaginous nose. However, it is often commonly visible in humanoid undead characters, such as reanimated skeletons and zombies.
It can also be seen on characters with nasal injuries or facial scars, and rarely can be naturally visible on some species such as snub-nosed monkeys.
