Zarya is a tank type hero with abilities that focus on strong barriers that absorb damage and use it to enhance her own attacks. Zarya was born during the days of the Omnic Crisis in a small village in Siberia near the front lines of that Crisis there. As a child of a war ravaged nation she grew up in a region devastated by conflict and at an early age she vowed to become stronger so that she could help her people rebuild and protect themselves from future threats. To that end Zarya focused on her physique, training relentlessly and becoming a world class weightlifter. She rose through the ranks quickly and became the rising star for future national and world titles in weightlifting. Unfortunately a dormant omnium near her hometown suddenly awoke and attacked, Zarya withdrew from the competition immediately and rushed back to her home to join the defense, forgoing her chance at fame and glory to instead serve her country in battle.

Personality
Zarya is a fierce and powerful combatant in battle and she harbors a deep resentment toward all Omnics, even those allied with humans. In her personal life Zarya is gruff and often stubborn, but those who know her better have seen that she is also fiercely loyal and determined. When she sets her mind to a goal she never quits until it is accomplished. Her resentment towards Omnics sometimes puts her at odds with those who make the distinction that not all Omnics are bad. Zarya knows that not all Omnics are against humanity, but she also believes that it would only take a little bit of clever reprogramming to change all of that...something she cannot stand and sees as a threat.
