Spaceballs is a 1987 American satirical comic sci-fi film co-written, produced and directed by Mel Brooks. The film parodies the original Star Wars trilogy as well as several other popular sci-fi films and franchises released up to that point. Although met with a mixed reception upon release, even winning a worst film of the year award, it's now considered a cult classic and one of Brooks's most popular films.
