History: Baikal grew up in the same house he currently occupies, though his family no longer lives with him having passed away due to ordeals related to the war. For many years he harbored resentment against faradens, not knowing any better until later in his adulthood. He lived with his aunt and uncle in his old house until he was old enonugh to live on his own, residing just outside Tereng, Central Qaywas. He made his income farming small fish, turtles, frogs, and "swamp tea", living a modest life. Given his role as guardian, he also helps manage aggressive corruptions should they spawn in the area. He is responsible for the management of Umi, lending Parana of the inner islands much of the power he would later bestow to a host. After offering the power he could to Parana, he left home in search of wherever Umi pointed to go, to find the host Umi sought. Parana would later help nanny and teach the young host in secret from others in the are, as per his father's wish to not let his son be known outside the home out of fear for his "cursed eyes", resembling those of the corrupted, and of stories passed down of Silas.

Needless to say, he was not too happy at first to learn that the desired host was to be a faraden. He held his tongue and did as requested, however, and facilitated the bond between host and force, living within the soul of Xhias. Doing so gave him a different perspective on faradens and he learned to see them as more or less the same as himeself, just hairier. He grew fond of Xhias as he grow up, serving as his only real friend and person to turn to to get away from his father. It was Baikal's idea to steal the money used to flee Qaywa and run to Faradus, doing what he could to keep both Xhias' and Xiane's life together, as well as to avoid Cast, the corruption which followed Xhias and preyed on his insecurities.

While probably not the best parent figure (having no real experience with children), he does his best to help and guide Xhias-- it was his idea to try to get cosmetic eye contacts if for no other reason than to help bolster the child's confidence. He knew that, at least eventually, Xhias would put them away for good, but if it helped ease some current stress then the benefits outweighed the faults. All in time.[/quote]
