Pink Diamond was a legendary gem from planet Homeworld and was a member of the Great Diamond Authority that continues to rule over the Gem race in her absence. She was in charge of Earth's colonization until she staged her own death to live as Rose_Quartz and liberate herself from her role as a Diamond. Later on, after she met Greg Universe and decided to have a baby, she had to give up her physical form, meaning she had to sacrifice herself to bring the baby into the world. They couldn't co-exist. After she gave up her physical form, she gave birth to one and only Steven Universe.
