The Great Dane is a German breed of domestic dog known for its giant size. Although not the tallest breed of dog (that being the Irish Wolfhound), the record holder for tallest dog was a Great Dane named Zeus; he died in September 2014 at the age of 5.

Great Danes are well known for their friendly temperament. The average lifespan is 6-8 years, though some individuals have lived for 10 years or longer.
