Character: samuel dog
Sam is an anthropomorphic Irish Wolfhound and one of the two lead protagonists in the franchise, Sam & Max.
He is a member of the freelance police, alongside his partner Max.
Personality:
Unlike Max, Sam is depicted as being rational and collected. Despite that, he rarely has an issue with Max's violent tendencies and admires Max for it. Famously, Sam will respond to Max's unhinged ramblings with "You crack me up, little buddy." or some variation of it.
Sam is calm under pressure. He is rarely rattled by the absurd situations he finds himself in, typically reacting through long-winded sentences filled with elaborate terminology.
Sam has a large sweet tooth. He enjoys a multitude of frozen treats in his adventures, especially in the comics. Sam can be a little sensitive and self-conscious about his weight.
Noir Sam:
Sam can, and has, lost his temper before. When he does, he goes far into the deep end. In Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse, Sam becomes an uncharacteristically cynical detective who is cruel and vicious towards others.
Fans refer to this side of Sam's personality as Noir Sam, due to its similarities to film-noir detectives.
Physical Appearance:
Sam is a 6-foot-tall dog.
Clothing/Items:
- Suit: Sam wears a grey suit.
- Shirt: Under his suit, Sam wears a white dress shirt.
- Necktie: Sam wears a black and blue striped necktie.
- Hat: Sam's suit matches his grey hat.
--
- Big Kill: Big Kill is Sam's gun. It closely resembles an oversized Smith & Wesson Model 29 .44 Magnum revolver.
