Species: malo

MalO, plural MalOs, are a fictional species established by the author LurkD in their SCP Foundation story SCP-1471 — MalO ver1.0.0, and the reception of said story by fans. In general, MalO are anthropomorphic canines with a skull head or exposed skull. They also have dark colored hair, fur, and ears (often black and/or grey), and empty white eyes set in dark eye sockets or sclera, but appearances may vary.

The design of MalOs originated in 2011 with the concept of a zombie werewolf with loose incorporation of the gjenganger of Scandinavian folklore; specifically with Breynz, an original character belonging to cosplayer Tarangryph who commissioned a fursuit from Qarrezel. On October 29th, 2011, Tarangryph photographed herself dressed as Breynz at a hotel anticipating MCM London Expo, a picture titled “Don't open the door...”

Circa 2013, LurkD found and was inspired by “Don't open the door...” to write an SCP entry around it; from this they produced SCP-1471 — MalO ver1.0.0, coining the name MalO for SCP-1471-A. After being posted February 23rd, 2023, the use of MalOs as a species name can be found as early as March 1st in Fantem's tale Capone, the potentially first fanwork of LurkD's story. Due to rise in SCP-1471-A's popularity, especially in the SCP Foundation's Furry demographic, and encouraged by the canonical prospect of multiple SCP-1471-As, multiple fan characters have been made and cemented an interpretation of MalO as a species.

Due to SCP-1471 being specified as a "version 1.0.0", explorations of MalO subspecies in the form of older and newer versions have been made; such as MalO 0.9 and MalO 1.1 (both created by Keadonger) or MalO 2.0 (by SCP_1471_TTV).
