This tag describes any kind of bottomwear with a waistband that sits at the wearer's natural waist — which means above, or just below the navel. These clothes will appear "especially" high up on the character's torso compared with other more common depictions of bottomwear. Pants, shorts, skirts, panties, thongs, bikini bottoms can all fall under this tag.

Jeans with a high waist are sometimes called "mom jeans", while high waist panties are sometimes referred to as "french cut".

High waisted bottomwear are often worn with topwear that reveals the upper midriff.

Note:

This tag should not be confused with highleg bottomwear, however, a piece of bottomwear may be high-waisted and highleg at the same time — this is usually seen in bikini bottoms and panties (see examples below)
