Species: regional form (pokemon)
Some Pokémon have adapted to the distinctive microclimates of certain regions, taking on different forms than they have in others. These Pokémon are called regional forms (referred to as regional variants in Generation VII). Originally observed in the Alola region but later found in Galar and Paldea, they live like native Pokémon. Regional variant Pokémon can have different appearances and types, and their ways of living can also differ from that of the forms previously known.
Alolan forms are all of Generation I Pokémon. Unlike Alolan Forms, there are Galarian, Hisuian, and Paldean Forms of Pokémon from beyond Generation I, and several Galarian and Hisuian Forms have an evolution that their regular form does not.
Similarly to Mega Evolutions, regional forms should NOT be tagged as their base form, unless both are present in the image.

The explanation is that some Pokémon have adapted to the distinctive microclimates of a region, which makes sense, but it can also be seen as a creative means for Game Freak Inc. to retool classic franchise characters with new Pokémon types, and abilities better suited for gameplay for the Pokémon roster for that specific region.
The pre-evolutions of Raichu, Exeggutor, Marowak, Weezing, Mr. Mime, Typhlosion, Samurott, Lilligant, Braviary, Sliggoo, Avalugg, and Decidueye do not themselves have regional forms.
Alolan Forms all consist of Generation I Pokémon. Unlike Alolan Forms, there are Galarian, Hisuian, and Paldean Forms of Pokémon from beyond Generation I, and one Paldean Form and several Galarian and Hisuian Forms have an evolution that their regular form does not.
Tagging guidelines
- Regional forms should not be tagged as their default species tag. Use the regional form species tag instead.
