Topolino (from the Italian name of Mickey Mouse) is a long-running series of Disney comics, published in various forms in Italy since 1932. Initially published in a weekly format, Topolino changed to a monthly format in 1949, then a bimonthly format in 1952 before returning to a weekly format in 1960 where it has remained since.
Topolino began with republishing American stories translated into Italian; it began running original Italian stories in 1948. The most notable character produced by the publication is "Paperinik" ("The Duck Avenger" in English), the superhero alter-ego of Donald Duck, who first appeared in 1969. This version of Donald would receive a well-received spinoff series Paperinik New Adventures that ran from 1996 to 2000, which was partially localized into English by IDW Publishing in 2016. A video game based on the series titled PK: Out of the Shadows was released for the PlayStation 2 and Nintendo GameCube in 2002 to audiences largely unfamiliar with the source material.
