Hardware Wars is the first Star Wars parody, dating from 1978 and created by Ernie Fosselius and Michael Wiese. A low-budget film (costing $8000 to produce yet made over a million in theaters), Hardware Wars replaced the ships of Star Wars with various household appliances, C3-P0 with a parody of the Tin Woodsman from The Wizard of Oz and Chewbacca, with Chewchilla the Wookie Monster. George Lucas has stated that Hardware Wars is his favorite Star Wars parody.
