license plate
A license plate (also known as a registration plate) is a rectangular object containing an alphanumeric registration number for a vehicle. Most license plates are made out of aluminum.
Specific types
- A vanity plate is a license plate that the owner has paid an extra fee to choose a meaningful registration number of their choosing. License plate numbers will be arranged in a random string of letters and numbers otherwise.
- A novelty plate may refer to any license plate that one might purchase for display purposes, and may contain features of a vanity plate. It is more useful to tag novelty plates that have a graphical element to them rather than for the vanity plate variety. With novelty plates, the registration number is optional.
