Australia Day is the official national day of Australia. The holiday is observed annually on 26 January, it marks the 1788 landing of the First Fleet, and raising of the Union Flag by Arthur Phillip, at Sydney Cove in New South Wales. While the Commonwealth of Australia was formed from British colonies centuries later, in 1901, this event is seen as a symbolic founding of Australia.

Celebrations are marked by community and family events, reflections on Australian history, official community awards and citizenship ceremonies welcoming new Australians.
