Zelda, after falling into the temporal rift back to the distant past and receiving the decayed Master Sword from the future, had no means of returning to the present day to help Link in his fight against the Demon King, Ganondorf. Having learned of the forbidden act of draconification from Mineru, Zelda selflessly sacrifices her own mind and body by swallowing a Secret Stone to become the immortal Light Dragon, in order to restore the Master Sword with her power of light and deliver it to Link in the future.
