A group of Skakdi former Dark Hunters who briefly took over the island of Voya Nui in order to find the the Kanohi Ignika. Not a species at all, but a group of six individuals.

The term "Piraka" was a Matoran word the refered to criminal, directly translating to both "thief" and "murderer." It was considered extremely insulting, close to being a curse. The Piraka got their name from the leader of the Dark Hunters, the Sadowed One, branded them as this, which they reclaimed. Nektann, a skakdi warlord, was branded this by other skakdi for siding with Makuta Teridax during the Reign of Shadows.
