Species: mythological salamander
post #2528233 post #4363760 post #634954
Salamanders in classical mythology and heraldry are lizard-like or dragon-like creatures with an affinity for fire, often depicted as living within fire. Modern depictions of the mythological salamander tend to depict it as a lizard or small dragon either with a flame at the tip of its tail, a flaming mane, or even made completely of fire. The most popular depiction of this species is seen in the Pokemon evolutionary line of Charmander, Charmeleon, and Charizard.
Mythological salamanders may additionally be tagged as western dragon, lizard, or salamander if it closely resembles those species. Please do not tag all mythological salamanders as salamander unless the character actually looks like a real salamander, as that tag is reserved for the real-world amphibian species.
Not to be confused with:
- fire salamander - a real-world species of salamander.
