@Kemonophonic: I’m still a good musician. I’m good at bass and guitar, getting better at piano, but composing just isn’t for me. But I’m okay with that
And for once, I’m comfortable acknowledging that I’m good at things. I think I’m getting better :)

I’ve tried composing and writing my own music, but I learned it’s just not for me. I don’t think this is me giving up, rather just knowing my place in the world.
So knowing that, I think I’m going to focus on my writing

@Dragonlord2328: the place I had it towed to seems pretty good.

Great that it went relatively smoothly!

Going from place, to place to place always end up bad, saving no money in the long run; oil change place, tire place, big box store ... I will always recommend finding an auto shop that you trust and building a relationship up with them, just like having a family doctor.

Amen to that

Still having to quit, however, as I am being screwed right properly by management, and they have been trying to hide it from me for the last month.

Just holding off rage quitting; I am @ more of a seething simmer right now, and lining up Plans A and B (and maybe Plan C, my least favorite plan)

Oh well I get my car back this afternoon and I learned a bit more about my car.

Glad for ya most dishonest mechanics will try to rip you off so its best to check with a few

@Sharp_Coyote: It's colorado last week it rained, it snowed, and it reached 80 degrees (27 celsius) all within five days. maybe that's what did it.

I hear they used to have a keg in the break room at the brewery next to my plant, they took that out after several deaths.
Who knew alcohol and heavy machinery don't mix.

Drinking while @ work would be more helpful, admittedly, yet makes those new job follow-up calls a smidge awkward.

Aye, how I miss the aulden tymes ...

@Sharp_Coyote: When I turned the key the dash lights flickered and it didn't turn over at all, than there was an intermittent clicking.
I didn't notice anything different the day before it died.

The mechanic said the battery was seven years old, so quite a bit older than the average.

Yeh, clicking, and flickering, and 7 years old is it; hopefully no further damage. She was probably cranking a bit more slowly than normal, yet that is one of those things that is often overlooked as failures often creep up gradually. Batteries always seem to fail right after a temperature change, either first cold in fall, or first heat before summer hits.

I really should learn more about cars because I was at a loss when it didn't start.

@Doomguy666:
A very slow cranking (or at least slower than usual) is a sign the battery is on its way out; average battery life span is about 5 years.

I will always advise when the battery is testing as weak, replace it. A weak battery will overwork the alternator, shortening its lifespan.

A no crank, no start (or sometimes one single, loud 'click' with no crank) is a possibility of a starter. A really simple test is to have the headlights turned on, and somebody watching the lights while the key is turned to the crank position; if the lamps dim, but nothing happens (dead silence), it is a good sign that the starter is kaput.

Dead silence throughout a key cycle is a tougher one, as it could be many things, such as ignition switch, a relay, et al.

Cars suck, sometimes. The trick is to always be listening to them; vehicles are constantly giving us updates as to their condition, we just need to pay attention to changes in their behaviours.

I called the mechanic and they said the battery was shot.
Maybe that's all it is and the first guy that looked at it was a dipshit.

There are (2) types of not-starting:
cranks, but no start
or
no crank, no start

I called the mechanic and they said the battery was shot.

I won't find out until tomorrow though.

@Kemonophonic: yep, it was running perfectly fine until I tried to start it up this morning.
It doesn't look like it'll be too expensive to replace a starter, although coincidentally it costs as much as the new dot sight I was eyeballing.
Oh well, I just got a promotion so I can afford it.

Shit, car's dead. The starter might be seized, and I have to get it towed tomorrow.
I haven't missed a single day of work or even been late since I got this job and I'm not about to start now.
