So apparently Hollow Knight came out, and the reviews are pretty positive. I'm thinking of picking that up soon - I've been on a metroidvania kick.

I finally got around to playing the demo myself and it was pretty fun which was nice considering I got bored with the ghost recon beta already.

saw a video earlier about how steam may be trying to bring back the "paid mods" system at some point.

i wonder if it'll backfire as bad as last time they tried this.

o_O wouldn't that basically make mods a new form of DLC? since one of the biggest differences between the 2 is one is paid and the other is free.

It crashed last time because they introduced it to a game with a large mod library already. If they do it again, it'll still fail. By their nature, mods are lower fidelity and generally don't have the same amount of time and resources available. Many mods tend to be unstable, and can conflict with each other and crash the game, so that's going to kill the market when that happens.

Plus its obviously a thinly-veiled scheme to make more money for Valve and publishers, since modders were only getting 25 cents of every dollar.

Didn't the modder have to request "paid content" status? Get some greenlighting on those, same as games, so if it's not really adding anything worth the cents the author wants to charge, it won't be sold.

Personally I think it failed because Steam failed to communicate what exactly it was. I think it was a great idea, but it's ruined forever because of how Steam handled it. The modders who were paid also ended up having the money reversed without warning, while still being forced to provide and maintain the mod under the threat of a permanent ban. Nice one Steam. Way to get the worst of both worlds.

Really? That's such a weird choice tbh.
I mean I love Marth's japanese voice as much as the next guy
but I don't get why they excludes a character that's been with
the franchise since melee from a dub.

Idk maybe his voice is to iconic to change ~ w ~)

Elite Dangerous is pretty fun. Especially since I've now killed Karl Marx, Shigeru Miyamoto, someone with my name, and Jimi Hendrix yelled at me that the end is neigh, and some other strange stuff happened.

Though it can get incredibly repetitive since it's 95% flying and shooting stuff with your ship.

oh and this special edition version of skyrim looks beautiful. :) MUCH better graphics and lighting/shading effects than my old basic copy for the xbox 360.

and...my training grinding is now done (legendary...ing sneak several times which is tedious) and i'm eager to see what has become of Solstheim after all these years! i haven't seen that place since way back in the morrowind days.

How about with the Onlink mod?

the what mod? never heard of that one before.

edit: well, i was going to try a few mods now that the update finished downloading (skyrim) but it looks like bethesda's mod hosting service is about as stable as google's google drive service when it comes to staying logged in. and by that i mean constantly getting booted back to the login screen or stuck in a perpetual "logging in" screen where the only fix is to reboot the game itself.

i gotta say, whatever happened after the events of morrowind really did a number on the nearby island of solstheim. when i first got there i thought the island was covered in snow like it was back then but nope, that there is ash. plus, if you look off eastward you can see our good friend the red mountain of vardenfell is still very much active with a steady stream of smoke coming out of it.

the northern glacier region (around 1/3 of the island give or take a bit) might be covered in ice and snow but the rest of it is ash as far as the eye can see. big mountains of the stuff with ash zombies crawling out to attack people.

oh, yeah, bring nothing short of ebony armor when visiting this place for the first time as the enemies hit hard. ash zombies...well, at least it's not ash vampires though the dawnguard will likely provide the vamps when i get around to that content. and i'm not going after miraak (i will be doing the alternate ending fight against the elder god boss to free miraak. chaos and tentacles...nasty stuff) until i find better armor like that strahlim or whatever the material is called.

Well, if they can include color pallettes, surely they could include a voice option. "Japanese" or "English", easy peasy.

Jesus christ.

Latest bunch of proposed (yet to be actually instated, but pretty much guaranteed to come to pass) balance changes to MechWarrior Online promise to make the already very tetchy balance issues present in the game even worse, in direct opposition to the balance changes' supposed aim. That, and latest bunch of Grab Deal Buy Now cashmechs are overall pretty underwhelming. I mean, at least they're not P2W, but they are fairly uninspired and uninteresting (barring maybe one or two of them).

Official MWO forums are, as usual, full of people with Stockholm Syndrome exclaiming that these new cashmechs are wonderful and the balance passes to come will be a positive thing.

apocrypha... o_O this place is exactly the reason it is smart to always try and keep an open mind.

i'm up to the 3rd black book and this place is well designed, bethesda. between the acid water, tentacles, few enemies, and the shifting environment, just being there makes me feel a bit uneasy. i wonder, is this how an elder god views the world? to see it as something alien to themselves?

well, whatever, it's freaky.

in watchdogs while hacking a cios server: dude starts singing while the system does what is obviously a copyright id check on the lyrics.

are you kidding me? that system gathers so much info on people that you can't even sing aloud without being subject to a copyright id system? that is fucked up.

then theres the spying on private citizens, invasion of privacy, pretty much everything in the city is monitored around the clock which, while great for stopping crimes, is going WAY too far.

this is one seriously messed up scenario in every way. and just thinking about what microsoft is doing with windows 10 is just plain scary since it's on that path. glad i'm not using it.

not sure which digital trip your referring to but 20 crimes down and i love this 5-star handgun: Chrome Revolver. the sound it makes when you shoot (it's a little different from most guns. not really a "bang" but more like the sound of something hitting metal) and full auto... that is one sweet close/mid range weapon. plus it doesn't have bad recoil and does great damage (3 shots and even a star tier enemy goes down).

actually, can you unlock more digital trips or is it just the 4 you start with? this game is pretty big with the "exploration is rewarded" thing. especially the main island. that place is stuffed full of things to find and places to visit.

vehicles (several categories, you get a fire engine and...it may not have a cannon but it's about as tough as a tank.), clothes (kinda wish there was armor but this game has that first person shooter hp regen thing so it works out well enough), music (great soundtrack btw), several weapon types (handgun, SMGs, assault rifles, sniper rifles, at least 1 grenade launcher which is great for criminal convoy missions), and a bunch of other stuff.

It's DLC. By the way, Bad Blood is worth it. You play as Raymond Kenny, someone with an actual personality. You know that drone in WD2? He has one in WD1, and you can play it. He named it Eugene. It's an RC car. He is so attached to Eugene that, if it's destroyed, you get a game over.

I personally like the Spec Ops 1911. It's fully silenced. Even if it's completely unrealistic, there is nothing more satisfying than cleaning up a Gang Hideout without a single one becoming suspicious. Also, I have a happy memory of when someone invaded me, I profiled them, then they tried to run me over, and I shot them in the head without moving out of the way, and the car stopped in front of me. Turns out windows in the cars aren't bulletproof, and you can headshot drivers.

The fifth one is part of a DLC. You have to profile people to figure out which ones are robots, then after spotting them all, you have to kill them, but getting spotted by a robot causes them to run at you and blow up. It doesn't matter how close they are when that happens. If they blow up, the force of the blast kills you.

Or that one guy who was spying on a woman to analyze a pattern in what she drank every morning. So far he only knows that she drinks apple juice on Mondays and orange juice on Tuesdays. Kinda meta when you realize this is exactly what you are doing to him.

Or when someone is introducing their friend to Assassin's Creed, and they're like "How is this supposed to be fun?" Especially when you realize AC is the same continuity.

Or spying on Jordi Chin dumping a body. The alarm immediately goes off and you can't profile him.

not sure if i'll buy any DLC for this game though Raymond Kenny does sound like a pretty nice guy judging by the audio files i've heard so far. dude sounds like a renegade trying to take down the monster system he helped to create. given what that system is capable of...good man. :)

yeah, took out a few people in cars like that. the windows do still take a beating before they shatter though. as for the gang hideouts and other missions. i kinda like screwing around with things to see what reactions i can trigger. like that taliban line.

I always blast Winter in Chicago when I drive. Sorry, Lucky Quinn, but you are not the most Irish character in Watch_Dogs. I am.

not sure what all i've got on my playlist but they did put some nice music in this game. i hope WD2 has a good selection (perhaps an even bigger one) too.

Lucky Quinn...first saw him in the last story mission i did last night. chicago gangsters are one type of people i wouldn't want to get on the bad side of. nothing good could come of that. but...i'll probably have to get tangled up in that stuff as the story progresses. :/

In somewhat related news:

Do not give GOG.com your patronage in any way. Just don't do it. Period.

Reason being?
One of the most consumer friendly digital storefront you can find on PC and almost all old games I own both GOG.com and Steam, I have to use GOG.com version for them to work correctly on my modern computer. Also their customer service actually responds and helps.

Of course there are some newer games which can have content cut or made inconvinient, I know at least two games which are lacking online features on GOG.com version, but do your research before buying or simply prefer GOG.com for older titles only.

What I do add in is don't give third party key resellers your money, that is the shadiest business there is right now, biggest one might be G2A. There is simply no way those sites can possibly have keys for game cheaper than any other store, while not getting the keys from publisher. These are then usually games bought in massive bundles to be resold, even though it's disallowed, buying games from cheaper regions which couldn't afford games at all if it weren't for price difference, credit card frauds, stolen physical game disc keys, etc. This is why they usually sell insurances for your purchares, because they know they sell lot of these kind of stuff which can be easily just disabled by publisher. However if publisher did what they should do and disable keys, it would result angry customers and they would go after publisher instead of the store like they should.

Instead if you want the cheapest price you can get, use services like IsThereAnyDeal and CheapShark. These sites will automatically compare and keep history of game prices across all stores that are known to be legit. Gaming cheaply with really good conscience.

With GOG you get a great selection of games (new and old, mostly older ones) and no DRM.

with Steam you get a...well whether it's a good or bad selection is debatable (ESPECIALLY if you go browsing the greenlight section) and...Steam itself is DRM and unless the game has been cracked you require Steam just to play the game.

If it wasn't obvious from my message, I use both of these services and many more, that's why I was asking that what is it exactly that is bad with GOG.com that they do not deserve my money?

This is PC gaming after all, we can buy games outside steam if we so desire.

:/ think i'm about done with skyrim:SE. i already did the hearthfire house building back on the 360 and i've long since seen all of the base game content so for now i mainly just need to finish the dawnguard quest chain, make up my mind as to whether or not i want to rescue miraak (wow, a bethesda final boss fight that has an alternate ending. what universe am i in that allows such a bizarre occurrence? o_O), and check out the 2 super bosses in the DLC content.

think i just need 1 more shard, if i haven't already collected it, to fight the reaper in the soul cairn. and i'm not really sure where to find that one boss in solstheim yet. pretty sure it's up in the northwest glacier region of the island but i don't know where exactly.

still doing watchdogs. up to act 2 now i think. gotta go infiltrate a gang hideout that's built like a fort. that'll be fun.

and i can't say i enjoyed breaking into then out of prison much as it's hard to escape the police when they're already on high alert and you literally just ran right past them. that was NOT easy. but i managed after a few tries.

also, money is super easy to get in this game. to the point where gathering donations from city hot spots is pretty pointless.

looking through gamefly to add to my queue: o_O wow, they still make Micromachines games? i haven't played one of those games since the nes and snes/genesis generations.

i am not adding mighty no.9 to my queue. i could do better than that game with a friggin flash game on some website.

minecraft... maybe later.

Nier Autonima sounds interesting but like a lot of interesting sounding games i'll have to wait till it's released to get it. :/ gonna have a bunch of games in waiting on my queue.

elder scrolls online tamriel unlimited... o_O they have a MMORPG up for rental? never seen something like that before. bet it requires that stupid PS+ to use though which i'm not paying for.

touhou! love the music but not much of a bullet hell fan otherwise.

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA: wow, i put this in my queue and it'll be there till 12/31/17. well, maybe it'd be worth the wait.

i like seeing a lot of japanese stuff coming up but eh...some seems interesting and some doesn't really suit me (possibly a culture or genre thing, i dunno). oh well, that's a bunch more added and i want bloodstained to come o0ut. especially if kojima is planning on releasing console versions as well as for the pc.

Actually, the Dark Brotherhood questline has an entirely separate story just in case you decide to kill Astrid in the shed instead of any of the captives.

Also, ESO can be Buy-to-Play, like Guild Wars. It's better than people say.

What's that?

PS+ or PlayStation Plus is Sony's version of Xbox Live basically. could be mistaken but i think PS+ started with the PS4 as multiplayer and online services were free on the PS3. i'm sure the change likely drove some of their user base away in the same way xbox live would some xbox fans. men, i'll get a console but i'll refuse to pay extra for what i can get free elsewhere (namely multiplayer in video games).

$400 for the PS4 PRO (1TB version), the $ spent on the games themselves, then they expect you to pay even MORE $ for the ability to play multiplayer with other people. and that's putting aside the matter of paying $ for DLC too.

overall, it's simply not worth it in the end. oh and the free games they offer PS+ subscribers is a bad deal too. if you download any of the free PS+ games then decide you no longer want to pay for PS+ at some point, all of those free games will be inaccessible until you resume the PS+ payments. microsoft also does this but i'm not sure if they kill access to the free games when you kill your subscription.

and it all has to do with money. it's nothing more than a way to force gamers to shell out more and more cash on top of what they paid for the console and games.

it's why i'll NEVER stop being a supporter of PC gaming. PC gaming is just flat out superior in a variety of ways. but even if it's just single player, i do still like some console games too.

Ever checked out the material on the bonus disc? Some pretty cool stuff on there, especially the manifesto.

I have the Steam version.

first off, i'm back (to normal on thursday hopefully) after an eye related injury.

second, would any of you happen to know sony's tech support for playstation network(the email address i mean.)? seems i got screwed out of my account 2 days ago and need to request another change.

no, sony, i did NOT request a login id (email) change, you idiots.

also, shocking news: with the latest system update for PS4, the idiots with major control problems at sony have made the media player app locked unless you have a PSN account.

that means no using the media player app to play music/videos/etc. off a mp3 player/usb flash drive/etc. without both an internet connection AND a PSN account. (wtf is wrong with these people?)

@change password page for PSN: *types in email* ... my gmail address isn't a valid email address? -_- what is WRONG with you sony?

in WoFF, i have found (and unlocked) the choco-behemoth and his name IS... Hyperion!

you have to do an intervention quest to unlock his memento and use him but when fighting this black speed demon he starts with haste active and hits like a behemoth. (i would advise not fighting this dude till your in the lvl 35-40+ range or else he'll easily be hitting you for 500-1k+/hit)

good thing is, if you DO manage to beat him, his mirageboard (along with blackchocochick's) is built for pure speed with most slots being agility+'s and the rest mainly focusing on haste, haste/another effect, and evasion^/another effect.

so yeah, get a good L sized monster and stick to lilikin form and watch your speed soar in battle. i think haste makes you double speed so if the agility+'s aren't good enough, use a haste and REALLY ramp up the speed. well, for a few turns anyway. otherwise hes not that powerful in overall stats so having another fill in and compensate for that is a good idea.

still, 1 of these speedy birds in each stack or dare i say 2 in 1 stack (O_O i pity the fool that messes with that nightmare) is quite the boost.

also, i'm not sure but...i get the feeling hyperion was taking part in slave labor during that quest... not sure what that was all about.

And Xenosaga is basically symbols that mean nothing for its own sake and Jesus with Amnesia using gloves based on a pun to defeat a genocidal species named after the concept of knowledge.

For the record, Xenoblade Chronicles X seems to abandon the sword idea, only still using the name because it borrows the arts system from the actual xenoblade game. I assume this is why the new one for the Switch is using "2" rather than 3.

Hopefully this means that one of the main characters does get the xenoblade this time, rather than only having it be a hair accessory in the third of three major characters (and one who honestly felt unimportant despite that).

Oh reminds me of miiverse stage in smash bros. Select furry bait characters to fight and watch how many lewd and furry references you can spot background.

Sadly screenshotting is blocked in that stage, so would need to hook up capture card to screenshot.

just came across this.

YOOKA-LAYLEE devs remove JonTron's voice from game following controversy

also, just over 2 weeks till yooka-laylee on ps4 (well, it's the release date shown on gamefly). :)

this is a great world we live in, isn't it? when thought crime is an actual thing. at least according to those who think having differing opinions on something is bad and should be punished.

edit: not too sure how much i want to try mass effect andromeda now... MASS EFFECT: ANDROMEDA - A Bit Of A Mess Effect

it doesn't seem all that impressive. oh, i'll still give it a rental at least, just might not buy it.

gamefly spat out the digimon game in my queue instead of nioh this time so still no nioh yet. :/ oh well, maybe the digimon game will be ok...maybe. ps4 has its fair share of shitty ports from ps vita and other stuff.

if you devs are going to port something from inferior hardware to superior hardware, do SOMETHING to improve the game aside from what amounts to DLC added content and otherwise leave it untouched.

anyone here ever heard of a game called Warning Forever? it's a surprisingly complex game made by Hikware. i first came across it years ago.

the game is basically an endless boss rush mode that simply never ends.

depending on a number of factors and how you kill the boss in each round, it evolves and comes back in stronger and more complex forms with each new round. and that's pretty much it. you just fight until you can't fight no more.

and at 656 kb (sorry if this isn't allowed here. (it's a free game so...not sure how download links for those are handled here) it is incredibly tiny for how complex it is.

theres also a much bigger game kinda like an rts called Battleships Forever by the same dev that's 16MB in size. might need a decent pc if you go after than one and try pushing the graphics high as all the screen shaking, explosions, and particle effects can really build up some pressure if you make a really big battle or something (yep, you can make custom battles AND ships).

battleships forever uses all the same assets as warning does so anything you see in warning can be replicated in battleships.

just thought i'd share a couple old pc games i know about. :)

edit: 2 things, 1. if anyone can help figure out what this game was, i'd be very grateful. info can be found here

it's not demon's crest, actraiser (1 or 2), ghouls'n'ghosts... all the info i remember is on that thread.

i thin it was a snes/genesis era game but i'm not 100% sure.

and 2. while looking around for info on the above game i came across a retro style (snes pixel graphics) MMORPG called Kingdom of Loot. unfortunately it seems registration and everything is down while they try and get it on steam. so i don't know much about it for now.

edit2: wait, no, 3 things. 3. Orteil LIVES! and has gifted the Idle Game community with a new game called NeverEnding Legacy. though it's currently only in alpha stage so not all that much to it but for what is available, it's pretty good (good pixel art and stuff).

edit3: the mystery of the SNES title i couldn't remember has been solved. it was a game called Nightmare Busters which is well worth looking into if you like hard beat-em-up games.

i have GOT to start checking if the games i add to my gamefly queue are ports of mobile games.

the sandbox "god game", Reus... i've seen more content in flash games. and it's not even all that fun really.

as for Final Fantasy Type-0... omg, those are some BADLY made cutscenes. some characters mouths don't even move when they talk (the shy shop person you meet after the first mission.). other times you have 2 characters talking to each other with bad and unfitting physical movements along with the words they're speaking. and then in the same scene with the said 2 characters, one or both can walk away with a 3rd character talking from off-screen.

and then in this one cutscene where i just gave up, you have 1 character talking to your commander. ok, this character finishes and suddenly, without the first guy walking out of the way, a 2nd character instantly takes his spot and starts his part of the conversation.

i get it's a mobile game but damn, squarenix, i've seen better cutscene from other game devs on the NDS. hell, even PS2 games had better cutscenes and whatnot.

the story and everything is pieced together in fragments and you never really figure out...anything. by the 3rd chapter where you raid an empire weapons factory (or was it an R&D base...who knows) you still know virtually nothing about the plot. at least in XIII you could vaguely decipher the overall plot as the game progressed. this is just a mess.

the gameplay however was fairly good. action RPG combat, some of the good old scene transition random battles to a small battle arena (think star ocean), and the odd RTS mission. but as good as that stuff was, it hardly makes up for everything else.

with the phantoma stuff you gather from killed enemies, i thought there might be a crafting system but no, that's all used to power up spells you might never even touch. the shops are largely a waste of time. oh, more items DO get unlocked but...theres no way of knowing the requirements to unlock anything. you only get any notification about it after a mission if you happen to meet the requirements.

*sigh* GOT to start checking if what i'm adding to the queue is a shitty mobile port or not. porting a mobile game to a vastly superior console and leaving the game largely unchanged is just a shitty cash grab move, you STUPID game developers.

oh and the graphics of type-0. i honestly don't know what they mean by this being an HD version of the game because, quite honestly, this game is UGLY. the textures look like low-res textures that have been stretched to far and are all pixelated and shit. those textures would've been nuked off this site within seconds. if your gonna rerelease a game that originally had shitty graphics, then leave said graphics largely untouched, take the damn HD label off the title because that is NOT HD graphics!

edit: gamefly's "keep" prices for these are...

Reus: $17.99 -_- really?

Final Fantasy Type-0: $13.49

FF Type-0 HD is literally just a PSP to PS4/Xbox One port, although these versions do have more balanced gameplay, a remastered soundtrack, a few new scenes, and a difficulty which seems to be the biggest changes outside of the camera fixes and some dialogue changes between the JP to US/EU copies of the game.

I did it the same way I got Stealth up. By being a bandit's imagination.

To reach 100, you gotta just keep using it. Of course, you can install the uncapper and go even further.

lol just think, what if the AI could react and start getting increasingly paranoid of your activities. that could lead to some interesting changes in the bandits behavior. but the AI would probably have to be a fair bit more complicated than what was used in skyrim for that to work.

oh? might have to check that out sometime then. see what kind of ways i can torment the poor enemy soldiers.

...and hope they don't turn around and use my tricks against me. i learned that back in the first F.E.A.R. game. the enemies in that game will only fall for the same old trick just so many times before either ignoring it or tossing a hand grenade your way. (guess i stood in that tunnel making my flashlight flicker a bit too often. lol)

a reactive learning AI is quite fun to play with regardless.

for now though, checked earlier and my next game will finally be something decent. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. i've only ever played through the first game before and it was quite well done for its time. true, the graphics were crap but it's an old game so that's to be expected. the plot and everything else was done quite well though. even the illuminati conspiracy theory stuff. had a lot of references to a bunch of actual conspiracy theories i've heard about over the years iirc. defiinitely still a good game despite its age.

Have you played the Nameless Mod or the Malkavian Mod? The latter is basically everything according to a Malkavian vampire's logic.

for the original Deus Ex? o.O wasn't aware there was any mods for it. it'd be the gog version i use btw if that matters any.

wow, the nameless mod sounds quite impressive. you don't see many mods for games that have had that much work put into them. that is a rare sight.
