Sorry if this sounds off topic
but I just bought a new gamer PC
and the game Stories the Path of Destinies
but it chugs in the high settings and feel kinda slow,
not as smooth looking, like the PC LPs I see on Youtube.

Heres my PC and the game specs

Game: Processor: Intel CPU Core i5 3770 3.4 GHz / AMD CPU Phenom II X4 940
My Pc: Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700 cpu @ 3.60GHz 3.60GHz

Game: Memory: 8 GB RAM
My Pc: 16 GB RAM

Game: Graphics: GeForce GTX 770, GPU Radeon HD 7870
My Pc: GeForce GTX 1060 3GB

Just wondering what is the issue as I'm not a pc expert and I can't tell
what the issue is.

reading some of the reviews, apparently the game has bad optimization so you may need to turn down a couple of graphical settings to make it run smoother.

Odd...
well it runs "Good" to OK when everything is set on low or medium...
while playing it in 1280X720.
but it looks very bland and bright and the shadows are gone.
Odd as I got the pc this year the latest desktop game pc,
the the game is a year old.
so you think it can run it in max settings with like no issues.

I know Anti Aliasing tends to eat up more video ram than one would think. I know that's the case with GTA V and Saint's Row 2 or 3 with me, since I have a GTX 1050 2GB edition and those games eat up most of my vRAM, GTA V even eating up all but 1mb of vRAM from my GPU, even with Anti Aliasing being off.

You don't really need anti-aliasing once the resolution is above a certain point anyway. You're better off not turning it on.

Yeah I turn that off no clue if it help or not,
still it chugs a bit when the shadows is set on high
and on medium it feels slow...

So yeah I have to play it on a mixer of medium and low settings
mostly low.

Funny as the resident evil 7 demo runs well on medium.

there's a file in the game's %LOCALAPPDATA%\Stories\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor\ directory called "Engine.ini", if you try to hit Ctrl+F and type "r.VSync", and if it has a 1 on it, set it to 0 to turn it off.

News Wave! - Massive Backlash Sends EA Scrambling And Phoenix Wright Coming To Switch?

I'm being told that EA removed the "Refund" button from their website and you now have to call into their customer support line to ask for a refund.

From their historically downvoted reddit post, it's clear they have a lot to learn about becoming a scumbag F2P publisher. But if the refund button thing is true, then it's clear that they are learning. I can't be arsed to find out for myself because I'm a snooty indie gamer these days. :P Also because the recent mass-adoption of F2P mechanics into premium-priced AAA games makes my blood boil more than enough without intentionally getting closer to the material.

well then if that's the case, then you would need to right click the game on Steam, click on properties, click on the local files tab, then click on the "browse local files". See if the engine.ini file is located in that directory. I don't have the game, but I know that all of the game's files would be located in the install folder for the game on Steam, even deluxe edition/special edition soundtracks would be located within that directory oddly...

have you tried searching for engine.ini on the hard drive you installed the game on? that could help, but make sure you don't edit anything that isn't in the steam folders or the appdata folders

This is proper behaviour.

Game files, configuration files and game save data should always be saved on seperate locations, where game data is at selected usually high volume drive where it can be installed and deleted whenever and used by whoever, configuration files somwhere where it doesn't matter even if they get deleted and are user specific (%APPDATA%, %LOCALAPPADA%, HKEY_CURRENT_USER) and saves somewhere where they are hard to get lost and are user specific (Documents, Saved games, sometimes %APPDATA%, Steam userdata).

Of course there are some games which completely and utterly disregard any kind of thinking and just dumb everything on game install folder and then everything gets lost once game is uninstalled...

%STUFF% is windows variable, so you should be able to access the folder by simply copy-pasting that to either windows search or windows explorer. In this case, copy-pasting %LOCALAPPDATA%\Stories\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor\` should always get you to right location and I can confirm this is correct config location to Stories. Windows variables as well as your own user folders can easily be moved to another drive (hence why they are variables and not hard fixed paths) if you wish so and symbolic links are also a thing, that's why my desktop, downloads, documents, etc. folders are under X:\` instead of C:\Users\User\` Here's some information how to mess around with settings: https://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Stories:_The_Path_of_Destinies So to disable vsync, open up Engine.ini with preferred text editor (notepad works) and add in (it's not there by default) the following at the bottom and save:
[SystemSettings] r.VSync=0
As for PC version looking bad and working bad... I can confirm this is pretty much the case. I have actually been in contact with devs as the PS4 copy looks and plays insanely much better regardless of what I do and I do have high end gaming system. Especially the shadows are just awful mush. Here's direct quote I got from them couple months back:
Hi Mario, Thank you for the very detailed feedback. Indeed, we definitely need to do a pass on the game shadows and I have added that to our backlog. We are sorry for the troubles it may create while you are experiencing the game. We plan to look at all the optimisation that needs to be made on Stories by the end of the year.

"BlueDingo":/user/show/213725 said: You don't really need anti-aliasing once the resolution is above a certain point anyway. You're better off not turning it on.
Eeeh... This is one of those things why I like PC gaming. If you feel like you don't need AA, then don't use it, but I'm really not fan of jaggies and even with 4K resolutions, applying some minor AA will still turn image quality much higher. Mirror's Edge Catalyst I actually forced AA out as they were using some really blurry implementation of something, but I still needed to inject SMAA in so that I wouldn't get bothered by stairstep edges literally everywhere because of really bright contrast enviroment design. I sometimes put vsync off as I have high refresh rate monitor, but I couldn't live without some level of vsync with regular 60Hz monitor and if game runs well I do still put it on even at 144Hz as introduced input lag with this high frame rates is really small.

Yeah, it usually doesn't do much, because it's vsync :V
Usually vsync helps with tearing and may introduce input lag, it's not something that will magically boost performance significantly of the game unless it has some absurdly bad implementation of it.

Like said, in this case it's most likely more of their porting just sucking really badly more than anything else. Even just lack of basic options in the menu like that vsync is already telling.

As for Sonic Forces, haven't had any issues with Hedgehog engine with Generations (was actually testing steam link with this the other day) nor Lost World and haven't heard anything bad of PC version, though I do not personally own Forces yet. Always be aware of your PCs bottlenecks and tune the settings to have some breathing room above the desired frame rate on lower end machines to avoid huge frame drops/slowdowns.

I know that the Hedgehog Engine for Generations and possibly Lost World were optimized extremely well, probably because the Hedgehog Engine was in development since 2005 for Sonic Unleashed. Sonic Forces uses a newer updated version of the engine, which probably explains why it runs slightly worse, as the new engine so far was only used for Forces.

Odd kinda and sucks then if newer games won't play right on my new powerful PC...
as could be anything then, how the game is made or game update that made more issues then fixes them, to video card update that made the issues.

I just had an idea, probably a terrible one but an idea nonetheless: finding and buying Mage Knight: Apocalypse off of Amazon for less than 10$. My uncle gave me the game and a poster when I was a young teenager, because he worked at Bandai Namco and got free stuff all the time. I used to enjoy it back then, and as I did in WoW I had heavy “alt-itus” and never got far in it, so I decided to look it up today for reviews and a digital download. Sadly, no DD exists but new hard copies are 7.85 and used are 4.00 on Amazon. The reviews are less than optimal, but at a price like that it wouldn’t be too bad to at least try out.

So, anyone else here whom played the game and has an experience to share?

Xenoblade 2 is pretty good so far from what I've seen from moment you start a new game up right until you reach the first town, although there's a sort of exploit you can use with the MC's inability to move and attack at the same time where, if you budge Rex just after he attacks, he starts up his attack again.

There's also the fact that the game's graphics sort of look off in portable mode, although the game looks it's best docked like other Switch games

I would've said runescape but I forget hard, elite, and possibly the upcoming master clue scrolls have a chance at making a kid in Varrock give you a puzzle box.
would Carl Clover from Blazblue count? he just wants to help people who are in need of help, although it's not quite known as to what age he is specifically, although he's in the 12-15 age range, so he's not quite in the kid age range unless 12 is the confirmed age...

If the many videos on Jim Sterling's youtube channel (especially the "direct to video" ones) are anything to go by, Steam stopped giving a shit about quality control a long time ago.

Angels with Scaly Wings I don't think exactly pushes any of Steam's boundaries I don't think, outside of being a visual novel as well as being a visual novel that's associated with the furry fandom. Although, I haven't gone through the game very much though...

As for Shark Simulator XL, how the hell did that get past Steam's censors when HuniePop or that House Party game had to be outright censored to stay on Steam's storefront? Granted, HuniePop at least has a community patch out to remove the censorship, granted that it's also available on MangaGamer as DRM free, as well as being the other way to uncensor the game...

I remember steam being pretty strict about visual novels in general, but after steam greenlight and now direct, there's as much if not more of them as there are hidden object games and RPG maker games.

I guess I have heard bit more noise about House Party (mostly because it's garbage game and it got even to local gaming news website after being pulled from steam) and this is first time hearing about Shark Simulator XL, so it might be simply that the amount of noise game creates makes steam to step in. Alternatively it could be similar to deviantart where full intercourse where male penis is going to female vagina with bodily fluids flying everywhere is not porn, but visible pussy with one drop of juices dripping is. I'm going to steam community and pretty much all I do see is previously mentioned sex acts with really minimal censoring and completely visible shark nipples and genitalia. I guess there was also couple actual game screenshots.

The funny part with HuniePop is that it's technically not patch and it's most certainly not community one. What you need to do with that game is to "download" the patch, thing is that it's actually completely empty file which you can just create yourself. What it actually is is the code inside the game itself looking up if the file is present and if it is, change the version to uncensored. So there's no patch, it's essentially config file. It's just that "normies" will never realize this.

I really wish Demon's Souls was remastered, but DaS 1 being remade really helps trying to bring the game to more consoles, and fixing the god-awful PC port. Maybe I'm going to get the game on PS4 so my PS4 can be a Soulsbourne/Kingdom Hearts machine.

R4 3DS Nintendo 3ds emulator {link retracted} is very useful for 3DS games. You can play the large number of titles for Nintendo 3DS without using the console.

So, link to some SEO optimized page which lists Citra, tons of DS - not 3DS but regular DS - emulators and finally R4 flashcard which works on 3DS but will not play 3DS games and only DS games.

R4 cards do not run any 3DS games at all. I can confirm, since I happen to have an R4 clone card. Strange though, this account seems to have existed for 2 weeks, but only has a single post and it happens to be this post advertising an otherwise unknown website...

That's why I said it's SEO site and retracted the link on my own quote and told someone to retract the link from the main link as well, but apparently that hasn't happened.
Their only goal is to get higher up in possible search engine results by throwing as much useless information as possible on single page while still keeping the pages look like it was done by regular human, then make the page more desireable by linking it on forums - like here - to make it seem even better and in the process get ad revenue by forum users.

So it's just all bad and shouldn't be linked here.

Edit:

A Nintendo Switch Emulator Is Now In Development

I can't imagine the Switch emulator being too useful, since one the biggest reasons to own a Switch happen to be the portability. But then again, just about anyone who has ever emulated a game has attempted to emulate a GBA game at some point. I would hope this emulator at least emulates the console's docked mode, at least...

I was actually thinking the switch to be more desireable purchare for me if it was home console only, as in I wouldn't have to pay extra for portability and I could maybe even get better storage and such.

Ended up buying it anyway. We are still talking about the really early variations of the emulation, so it will take a while before it gets to stage where you can properly use it for fully playing everything anyway.

funnily enough, I have never really played the Switch in docked mode, as I don't really have anywhere to hook up my Switch to a TV at right now. I really should find a way to do such a thing, as Xenoblade 2 looks kind of compressed at times with how portable mode handles the game...
