That's copyright infringement, an unrelated issue.

Modding absolutely can be an infringement of copyright. It's similar to editing an image you don't have the rights to. Copyright doesn't just protect characters or franchises, it also protects individual works, like pieces of art, games, or movies.

Beyond that, if the developer doesn't want to make that sort of thing available, why do you think you have the right to it? That is an extremely entitled view, and also a legally unfounded one.

Their motivations don't matter. They could replace the swords with giant floppy rainbow dildos in the US release because they believe that if you have enough virtual dildos in America but not Europe, leprechauns will spring from Valhalla and grant them infinite pork cutlets, and it wouldn't matter, because their intent is a legal non-issue. You don't lose your IP rights because you're an insane inconsistent nutjob.

Don't get me wrong, I seriously think that IP law is broken, and needs to be looked at, adjusted and updated, particularly to strengthen things like fair-use protections. But this is not one of those issues.

I really wish games with lootboxes would actually make it to where you can actually get what they give through gameplay, but lock them behind something like achievements instead of currency you get through lootboxes. One thing I hate about Overwatch is that lootboxes feel like gambling, even though they made them to where things you haven't unlocked, instead of constantly getting the same skins.

TF2 did it

Actually unless the mod specifically contains the game data itself, which it doesn't, it's not a copyright issue. If it did that, it would be a rom hack. You don't necessarily need the game data, and something that replaces a texture or mesh has no assets from the game. If it added the assets to a different game, then it's infringement, but adding original assets to it without accessing existing assets? Nope.

So expecting consistency makes me entitled? I'll keep that in mind next time I create something and censor your copy of it.

Some of it is just stupid, like replacing swords with sticks in Dragon Ball Fusions. Were they afraid that a game featuring muscled up characters beating the shit out of each other would be considered too violent if swords were included? Other Dragon Ball games had no problem with this so why censor this one?

this censorship is also really stupid since Smash 3DS, another game Namco helped on (I think), was rated E10+ and still had a few swords, like most Fire Emblem characters, and everything is still fine, as well as Ever Oasis having more emphasis on combat with melee weapons and it's still relatively the same as it was in Japan, unless Japan has different lines for some characters.

Nimin News - To Be, or Not To Be

was just checking TiTS for updates and decided to check on this game too. looks like it's not dead, just...stuck in a "dev hell" state for several years now. :/ at least xadera hasn't given up on it after all this time.

edit: ugh...at 31.2MB for version 0.7.85, TiTS sure has gotten big over the years. especially for a flash game.

yeah, misunderstood how one of the SS moves in SAO:HR worked was all.

Updated by anonymous

well, aside from training the various skills, i think that's it for SAO:HR (well those and the sacrament dungeons) till the DLCs.

so, now i think i'll try out this other game. Portal Knights

huh, simple yet cute art style with this one.

edit: 1st boss down and so far, portal knights is a pretty nice game. got a lake draining down through a dungeon (went and dug a tunnel out through the side of this island from in there) while this games updates download and this games dungeons sure can hold a whole lot of water. gonna be quite a while before this lake drains...unless i go to the deepest section and dig a hole causing the whole thing to just bottom out real fast. lol

1st/3rd person camera angle (toggle with R3), plays kinda like minecraft...if minecraft had 3d graphics instead of cube everything. real nice graphics. not too realistic but not overly cartoony looking.

overall, it's a good sandbox RPG with a lvl/stat/perk system complete with occasional events and side quests you can go around doing.

i also saw mention of something called the "ghost world" in the trophies so i guess there might be a land of the dead type place somewhere among these islands. wonder what materials could be found there.

lamp_shadow.bcres
my_home_shadow.bcres

I wondered why none of the model viewers/converters could open them. Turns out they ar an older bcres format. Does not have "DATA" and "IMAG" magic.

I was able to convert the textures with texturipper_1.2, but nothing with the model data so far.

Texture data is before the readable stuff.

bench2x1_shadow
fieldobj_shadow
...
lu_shadow_spc2

Used bcres format: revision: 05000000
Old bcres format: revision: 04010000

Still going through the files to look for more. Item/model/ 3881 files here alone.

Atlus Games attempts DMCA strike on PS3 Emulator Patreon page

really, atlus? again with the persona 5 bullshit?

we live in the age of the internet. people are going to be playing your game, talking about it, and sharing information about it. you're just going to have to deal with it because that's just how things are.

honestly...no amount of DMCA strikes will make people stop talking about your game. all that will do is piss everyone off and make them stop supporting (and with enough pushing, stop buying your games altogether).

I had a quick look into this and it sounds like they just don't want people spoiling the ending, unless I pulled up the wrong article.

yeah, that was the big fiasco when the game first came out and they started going after streamers. going so far as to try and limit how much of the game was allowed to be streamed (up to a certain in-game date iirc).

this is more emulation related.

even the island the game starts you on isn't a "peaceful mode" equivalent so this is quite the prize. a whole island, no enemy spawns, and free to reshape it as i see fit. you can't get a much better reward than that in a sandbox game like this.

o_O any aimed at teaching kids about sex? cause something tells me that wouldn't be too much of a stretch from teaching them about child birth.

the phrase "age inappropriate content" seems to mean less and less these days as people keep trying to push more and more advanced things onto young kids.

then again, it's not like all that many follow the ESRB/etc. age ratings (CoD being a prime example of this) anymore. makes me wonder if, eventually, the only age rating that will even matter will be AO/18+ and E for Everyone. and how far the standards of AO might drop over time...

edit: *types in "sex" in the search bar at kongregate* o_O why am i not surprised? i doubt they'd actually allow anything explicit on the site despite how they let over 90% of the internets "video game" garbage be uploaded but really, i bet over 90% of these results are from other video game arcade websites.

kong gave up filtering that crap and having anything remotely resembly "standards" years ago.

iirc the age of consent in japan is still in the 8-12 range which leads me to wonder what their stance on things like pedophilia is like. i mean, iirc they legalized shota porn content a while back so there's that but that still leaves the topic in general.

They understand that art is art.

In the more urban areas, like Tokyo, I've heard the age of consent actually is raised to match the western countries (18), and it's just more rural areas that still have the old laws.

Actually, I think it's more a case of people trying to milk ad revenue out of kids than people pushing sex on to kids. Chances are these pregnancy simulators don't contain any sex or visible genitals, and quite a few of these use stolen characters.

I know cartoon violence gets a massive pass in this regard. Good Knight Story has gore in it yet only has a PG rating because it's not realistic enough.

that's not surprising in the slightest. especially if the games in question are shitty little cash grab games a random dev churns out for a quick buck or 2.

i bet, with the right art style (make it look cartoony enough), even a game like dark souls could have a surprisingly low age rating. but...who would want to bother with it at that point? it'd be like so many other games that fade away in time.

and off topic from that but i was looking around last night trying to find a certain type of RPG (well, a certain design type) and...came up empty.

the type of game i was looking for would be either top-down or isometric camera angle and play somewhat like diablo 2 if that's anything to go on. i'm pretty sure it'd be of the "action rpg" sub-genre.

not looking for any particular game, just some to try out with that kind of design. maybe from the 1990's?

sorry for the vagueness but tbh, i'm not even sure what exactly i was looking for myself. it was just one of those late night random browsing sessions.

i'm not sure how to do the math the to figure that out so i'll leave it to someone who does but i bet the answer would be an absurdly large area of space and probably an absurdly large file size too with the entire map loaded.

i'm just wondering how big the map would be is all.

assuming that you mean how big the planet would be if it was a minecraft-esque cube would be, you just need to multiply 921.6 quadrillion meters (I believe a single MC block is about a meter long, if the height of the player is taken into account, but I could be wrong) by 6 then you would have your answer. If you were talking about file size though, that size would be about 97.5 Petabytes in data, which is about 965000 terabytes.

that reminds me of the Morrowind expansion packs, where the game added a special chat option with most NPC's that brought up how to go to the land of Solstheim, which was normal, and then there was the Tribunal expansion, that added another new land called Mournhold and the only way you figured out that this place existed is when some assassins randomly pop up and try to kill you after you try to sleep. Stand in front of the door to block it from opening, or lock it. Hit assassin with fireball repeatedly through the door. Collect loot. Sell in bazaar outside or Fighter's Guild. Get rich quick.

so you're saying that shooting the dog enough times would've caused the entire console to crash? I'm guessing this is why Nintendo removed shooting the dog from the western releases, alongside potential dog abuse concerns.

given how many things typically get removed and/or censored (religious things are among the most common changes) that could be the reason it was changed or there might've been some other reason.

and on the topic of SAO:HR yet again... i went ahead and started all 3 DLC chapters earlier today and it turns out they can all be active at the same time and played through in any order once active. so...i can go play through some of the 3rd chapter for awesome equipment (and hope i don't get 1-shot by the immensely powerful mobs) then go back through the other 2 while greatly over powered/leveled.

i think what i read on the gamefaqs forums was right. it seems like they basically just went "F it, give them what they want" by the time of the 3rd DLC cause you have free access to all Enigma Orders (no need to wait for them to unlock over time), all the other content is unlocked and can be accessed whenever you want... probably the one thing that remains unlocked is the 1k floor dungeon. i think that might be post-DLC 3 content and it's definitely not going to be easy until you reach a very high lvl with high lvl gear.

on the other hand, at lvl 81, with my current gear, it seems as if the basic attack has been rendered all but useless again (for now) due to that lvl suppression system where you do less damage to enemies higher lvl than you. so what can you do about that? simple, grab a katana, unlock the Shinonome SS (5-hits, (STR 50% VIT 50% AGI 50% DEX 50% based damage) / combo attack, (Mob) Bleed Lv2 -30/20 sec., Ignore Defense) and use that to go around ripping anything in your path a new one.

buff up your attack speed a good bit and you can spam that SS fast enough to where even golems and NM's don't take too long (HNM's...those are still OP as F, especially the DLC 3 ones).

but yeah, in the post-game and DLC, sword skills become VEEERY important and vastly more damaging than the normal attacks.

edit: ok, i think i see why the 1k floor dungeon is also known as the "infinite dungeon". if it's like these 4 our ouroboros dungeons then it's randomized each time you enter it so all the floors are different.

and...since you can't click the left side of the touchpad to expand the minimap and see the entire floor, it's more like a rogue like dungeon.

that reminds me of the Morrowind expansion packs, where the game added a special chat option with most NPC's that brought up how to go to the land of Solstheim, which was normal, and then there was the Tribunal expansion, that added another new land called Mournhold and the only way you figured out that this place existed is when some assassins randomly pop up and try to kill you after you try to sleep. Their spawn rates were kind of common once you reached level 5, and they commonly used poison enchanted glass daggers as well unfortunately...

You could always sleep in a location where there were plenty of friendly NPCs. The first time I got attacked, I was at an inn, so I just ran out of the room and everybody in the inn got together and killed the assassins. Free easy high level loot.

The grey rubber part of the circle pad on my 3ds popped off, and now it comes off super easily. I could try gluing it back on, or I could get used to the feel of the thing without the rubber covering, but...

The reason it popped off was because I was playing Monster Hunter, and whenever you get stunned, dazed, or caught by a monster, you have to vigorously move the control stick around to escape, and...

Seriously, are we not past that yet? That's not a fun mechanic in any game. Having to button mash to escape from a status or scenario doesn't feel good, and it's hard on the controller. I'm kind of surprised that this still exists in modern games.

that's always a good strategy in games where the NPC's will aggro and attack anything that attacks you first. or if the thing attacking/chasing you is of an opposing faction of the nearby NPC's.

just find a higher lvl enemy, do enough damage to where you'll get exp for the kill (if the game works that way) and then let the NPC's finish it off for you for quick and easy profit...assuming it's not strong enough to kill off said NPC's.

You get experience in The Elder Scrolls not for killing things, but for using your skills. Hit a living creature with a one handed weapon, one handed experience, block something with a shield, shield experience, etc.

That suddenly makes me wonder if there is a Training Dummy mod for Skyrim, that’d be an immobile, invincible “enemy” for you to train your skills.

Well, yes
Mods like these have been around since Skyrim was still a new game, people like having ways to buff themselves up without difficulty. With most of these, the targets aren't on leveled lsits, meaning they're only really useful if you spend hours on them, or are still a low level.

thank goodness those two movies show off the gameplay. I assume this is supposed to be similar to 7th Dragon III Code VFD and Etrian Odyssey 4 on the 3DS due to the fact that the ability system and dungeon crawling reminds me of those two games.

Does remind me of EO series. Can import here.

sorry, CoD fans, looks like this shit might be coming your way too so you're no exception to this BS.

oh and it looks like Shigeru Miyamoto is there in the comments (well, likely an RP account but still).

sorry, shigeru, but my support for your company ended the moment i heard about those glorified emulators and the damage your company was doing to sell them.

Eh, COD has had loot boxes since at least Advanced Warefare. Loot boxes really rub me the wrong way. Not only are you paying to get an item in a game, that there is a chance you payed full price for, but you are not even garunteed to get the item. The only thing worse than this is microtransactions in singleplayer games.
