have any of you ever seen a rhythm based combat system for SNES? no? well you have now!

o_O pretty interesting to see what these demoscene people can make using old video game consoles.

Not the most solid game, but music rhythm with combat mechanics could work well if done right.

psx: Playstation Demoscene: Haujobb - Strange Worlds

this demo looks pretty interesting but the psx had shitty graphics. there's just no getting around it. heavily pixelated polygons, texture popping... psx was ugly. but...it did have some decent games in its library and the FMV cutscenes in a good number of the games looked great. (the king's field games are particularly impressive on that point imo. especially since those were among the very first games for the console.)

Wanna make pretty much any emulated PS1 game look better than the original? Increase the resolution to your monitor's maximum and enable bilinear textures.

I hate how sometimes a soundtrack is almost hard to track down except for a few tracks. The only track I can consistently find for the first Trails of Cold Steel game is the battle tracks, granted they are some pretty good JRPG battle tracks. I am kind of wondering just how long the sequel is, considering how I'm tracking nearly 30 hours and I'm only in chapter four of seven...

speaking of PSX graphics, there's a snowmobile racing game that was released around 2000 called Polaris SnoCross, that seems to be sort of an ad for Polaris snowmobile's, I think, and the PSX version compared to the PC version is like comparing two completely different games...

There's also an N64 version. Graphically, it's the PC version with a low resolution.

that game rip has a lot of tracks that aren't titled at all, probably being due to the fact that whoever made those videos probably recorded the soundtrack through visiting every scene with only the BGM turned on, but that soundtrack playlist actually has every single song, as well as being titled. Thanks for this find, the game is sort of niche since it's made by a studio that isn't that well known...

News Wave Extra! - Doom Switch Has Motion Controls? Well...Sort Of...

I wonder how well motion controls will work in DOOM, since we haven't seen an FPS yet that explicitly used Wii Motion Plus for the Wii, and the right Joycon (does the left joycon have motion control? I know it has gyro because of Mario Kart 8, and possibly BotW if the Switch itself doesn't have a gyro sensor) is supposed to be even better than Wii Motion Plus.

BLIGHT TOWN FURY! Dark Souls Hard Mod Rage! (#8)

BLIGHTTOWN FIGHTS BACK! Dark Souls Hard Mod Rage! (#9)

The mighty Throthgar vs Blight Town in the hard mode mod and boy does that region HATE! the endlessly spawning bugoids and slobs are all ganging up on poor throthgar as a big army of death.

actually, i think that might've been the first time i ever heard him say "holy shit!" in a soulsborne game. lol quite the bad situation for him to say that. and i'm curious as to how he'll handle the man eating chests on top of everything else if that mod affects mimics too.

and i can't remember if this ps4 version of DSII: SoTFS that i'm playing through included the DLC or not. i think it does but i'm not sure and after 4-8+ hours of grinding, i'm...still grinding. trying to take it easy and not rush in this one cause the enemy placements are all different from the original version.

like a friggin ogre (hippo man) in the beginning of the forest of fallen giants (fat bastard takes a beating and keeps on coming) or having those heide knights scattered across the Heide's Tower of Flame region...and a guard dragon which i did manage to kill on the first try...after my bow broke shooting it. :/ this is tougher yet easier than the original version depending on the location your exploring.

and one of those heide knights had a poker and kept trying to poke me to death! >:(

Oh, I too thoughtMaruyama/Trouble Bruin was a cat, not a bear.

great game but unfortunately the only way us english speaking/reading gamers can see the storyline is via a translation patch for the japanese ROM. and that means those people who like to go on and on about the legality of ROMs and emulation will simply have to suck it up and deal with it if they want the games story while playing it. that or learn japanese.

BBS: almost finished with Terra's route... just got neverland and the last few events to do then it's just aqua and finally the main event.

i have a question regarding these save files though. if the game starts fresh for each characters route with nothing carried over from the other 2 characters "complete" files... does the 4th main file carry over anything from the first 3 files or am i going to have to retrain everyone from lvl 1 all over again?

that part of this type of setup is always annoying to sort out. cause with some games (like treasure of the rudra for snes) you only have to use a single save file and a lot of things such as your inventory gets shared amongst all characters. this is different though with it requiring no less than 4 separate save files to finish the game and the first 3 of those not sharing anything.

geez...you SUCK, terra! starting at the deep space world and now never never land, the damage he deals plummeted and the damage he takes really ramped up.

do i need to go to the arena and over lvl him like i did...no, MORE than i did with ventus? cause i finished ventus' route at lvl 33 and terra is lvl 19 currently and peter pan just ripped through over half my hp in a single short combo. i thought the combat lvl was 9 here which wouldn't be that tough. boy, was i ever wrong about that.

edit: bah, whatever... here is YongYea with more info on the EA and visceral games situation.

Is EA Gutting Visceral's Star Wars to Make a Destiny Clone?

what the fuck?!! i thought i killed all of the zed soldiers in that room earlier. been sitting idle in DSII for over an hour (youtube is to blame, of course) and just as i turn to go back to playing and one last soldier sneaks up and attacks out of nowhere!

hmmm...Sellsword Luet... dual havel, no! full havel set with 2 havel shields! O_O this white phantom is a shield basher and his eyes are burning with flames of RAGE! lol sweet...

wow, the last giant boss could barely even hurt him and he even used a cheer emote after the victory. that must've been a SoTFS phantom. glad i didn't have to fight that guy.

I wonder why the bath scene was removed from US version. :P

Japan is much more liberal when it comes to scenes about more sexual risque stuff, while America was dealing with the controversy of Mortal Kombat just a month prior to the release of Landstalker released. This is just my guess though, since there's usually some simpler reason as to why stuff was censored in American audiences, though...

you retain the levels you had during the first three stories. I hope you collected all the stickers in the game for each character, since there's apparently a fifth story you unlock by collecting all the stickers in the game for each characters...

This is the jpn version with English translation. I'm liking the boss dialog. Wish it would have stayed in the official US version.

maybe suggest it in that one idea thread over at rh.net? actually... suggestion posted. no telling when or if it'll though.

i wish i could play more games like Demon's Crest for SNES. just a random thought. :/

edit: oh and something worth noting about DSII:SoTFS. you might want to grind the heide knights until they all stop spawning in the heide tower of flame region cause once you kill the dragonrider boss they get angry, wake up, and start wandering around making the region even harder.

i wonder what other regions change in similar ways in this version of the game.

Turning Players Into Payers (The Jimquisition)

yep, i'm happy i pirate video games.

cause the companies and devs who use systems like this don't give a fuck about consumers or making quality, FUN TO PLAY, products. so why the hell should i give a fuck about them making money?

sorry, but there really are more important things in the world than maximizing ones profits (and yes, i suppose that does apply partly to the rule change fiasco happening here) but who cares about that when you can say "fuck you, customers/fans/etc." and make more money?

yeah... well, that's how the world works. money first, all other things 2nd or however far down the line you choose to put them.

edit: oh sure, microtransactions are optional... but not for much longer it seems. those arguments in defense of that shit are dying quickly with this and activisions matchmaking system.

man, so glad I like single player games more than multiplayer games, since I can easily avoid stuff like this unless it was a Deus Ex Mankind Divided or NBA series issue where microtransactions are haphazardly tossed into a singleplayer game for no reason other than "fuck you, single player players, give us money".

shame Star Wars games seemingly got worse and worse after Battlefront 2 came out, and now Star Wars games will never be good again until EA lets go of the license, which is unlikely as Battlefront 2(017) looks like it'll be a majorly successful game since it looks much better than Battlefront 2015 in terms of content.

Indie developers who price their game lower and doesn't include any additional costs like microtransactions or even DLC will thank you for not supporting them.

If you were only talking about games with absurd amount of additional monetization, why give companies excuses to be even worse by pirating their games? Instead just don't aknowledge those games at all. You do still hold value to the company who made the game if you are showing interest towards their product, even if you aren't paying for it. In addition like I touched in first sentence, there's so much other games which do want your attention and can give you as good or even better time than the game which has broken gameplay curve to make you either grind or pay.

I actually still have my list of unused PC game keys if someone is interested, which includes tons of bit older, but amazing games. Just drop me message in any way and I can give it for anyone reading this for free. All of them has been paid in full by me personally, so developers have already gotten the money they deserve. Reason why I won't just dumb keys in there is to avoid bots stealing them.

did you guys miss or ignore this part?

"cause the companies and devs who use systems like this don't give a fuck about consumers or making quality, FUN TO PLAY, products. so why the hell should i give a fuck about them making money?"

i generalized that on purpose because among the indie dev side of things you also have things like asset flippers and all the other shit jim sterling usually covers when it comes to steam.

if they're not making use of this kind of exploitative system or any other shitty practices then i have no problem with them doing what they want of making as much money as they can.

um...and dead space, mortal kombat (forgot which but it was the one where you could pay to make fatalities and whatnot easier to perform), that middle earth: shadow of war that's been causing a lot of drama lately.

sadly, single player games are slowly becoming just as much a victim of these business practices as multiplayer games have been. slowly but surely...

nice list but what was that Wildstar game? i don't remember that one.

@Bluedingo: you know what? i'm just going to start ignoring your anti-piracy fussing outright from now on. at best, all it does is leave you feeling better because you have some "moral high ground" which is pretty meaningless in the end since it amounts to and stops nothing.

especially since i've LONG since learned that pretty much nothing short of everyone in the world ceasing to create anything will ever come even remotely close to stopping piracy outright. and we all know that's never going to happen.

though i am still curious of one thing when it comes to piracy. how does GoG's lack of any and all DRM on the games they sell affect their profits in the long run? assuming there's any stats out there that show this. cause their site has been up and running for years now and i've never heard of them complaining about piracy hurting their profits. it might a little but i doubt it's all that bad.

And I thought this was too manipulative. Using analytical data to make a business more efficient and profitable is one thing (and a very common practice in retail), but the way this Scientific Revenue thing targets individual users seems very predatory to me. Granted, this will have no effect on me because I never spend real money in games and I tell any game that tries too hard to make me spend real money to go fuck itself, but still.

here's a scary thought: activision's matchmaking system working alongside this one.

all of the worst aspects of loot boxes and microtransactions combined to create a truly vile and monstrous greed machine that just sucks up game players and spits them out when their wallets have been emptied. likely much faster and more efficiently than the 2 systems already do separately.

and like always, it's probably only a matter of time before this happens since corporate greed only ever worsens.

edit: found another video about this scientific revenue thing if anyone's interested in seeing it

So Bubsy is Back.
Would that mean Gex and Aero the Acrobat have a chance?

I think Gex would be hard because he's kinda... too 90's.
With the corny and outdated references movie puns.
So I can see his personality gonna change to be more modern
or he'll be a satire of himself, or both.

Oh and about Bubsy I heard it's better then his others games...
but it short as a early 90's platformer game, you can beat it in 40 minutes.

eh, I am not sure how I would feel about a Gex reboot, considering how a lot of films in a few genres feel familiar somehow, like a lot of horror films or action films. Gex would probably also reference memes that were a thing in 2011-2012, but are considered cringy or out of date nowadays. I think the problem with this Bubsy game is that they were trying to make a 90's platformer with current day's difficulty, which makes the game super short and pretty easy. That, and the difficulty was the main reasoning for the original two Bubsy games being considered much more acceptable back then, I think.

Yeah Gex would be hard to bring back, game-play and his personality.
I can only picture him being a satire of himself
or be like South Park making fun of everything.

If I rewrote him
I would maybe make fun of theory games,
saying his isn't one
"if you see something in strange and mysterious...
don't think so much of it kid.."

And making fun of the past
"Awww the good ol'days... gheez I was paid to say alot of crap..."

But also point out the good things
and make him into character that talks when he needs to, like cutscenes only.

Yeah I heard the new Bubsy was hard
but it had so much check points it's makes it easy
and theres isn't any re-playable features,
even tho a good game post to be re-playable by itself...
The New Busby seems like it isn't.

the classic servers announcement seems kinda weird when you remember the whole Nostalrius fiasco, where they DMCA'd a huge vanilla WoW server because private servers are considered wrong under Blizzard's ToS for WoW, and a prominent person working for Blizzard's WoW team, said that people apparently don't know what they want when it comes to classic WoW servers, but this is a nice announcement nonetheless.

Anyone know of a site/service that allows you to find particular types of games? Not in terms of genres (Action, RPG, etc.) but games that contain particular things or allow you to do particular things, eg. operate a pizza shop or play as a centaur. Although general search engines such as DuckDuckGo do often find relevant things, they tend to be a little unreliable, especially when looking for more specific or obscure things.

On a related note, games with playable centaurs are very rare. I've only seen a few so far: Crowfall, Shadowbane and Linley's Dungeon Crawl.

I know Wikipedia has a Video games by theme but it only features basic themes and specific categories that are popular in games, like vampire games and non-playable protagonists (IE, the Third Street Saint's, not including The Boss, in the Saint's Row games, or party members in Kingdom Hearts games).

there's also Orisa in Overwatch that's a robot centaur, as well as Giantbomb having a list for centaurs in games, but most games listed do not have playable centaurs though.

That helps a bit, but their lists are incomplete. I checked their list of firefighting games and one I used to play all the time when I was a young goat was missing: Fire Trap.

I got myself steam link and was trying out some games on it to see how it worked, I'm actually surprised how hard it is to say if it's direct HDMI connection or steam link most of the time and steam controller just makes it much easier to use computer from sofa in general.

However one game I played was Shiness. I was thinking to myself, did this game just like go past everyone? I got the copy from backing the game and there has been other stuff to play so even I kinda forgot it.

it seems as if Shiness wasn't really talked too much by people, since it was released in the same month as both Persona 5 and Yooka Laylee, as well as not too much people talking about the game upon it's release.

Kinda wish Inherit the earth quest for the orb
had a remake or a big face lift remastered,
or at least it's two sequels.

[Hexus] Raja Koduri, Radeon Technologies Boss, leaves AMD
[24 hours later]
[AnandTech] Intel to Develop Discrete GPUs, Hires Raja Koduri as Chief Architect & Senior VP
heh... that's gaming news fyi, especially if Intel starts producing their own gaming GPUs in a few years.

Watch Dogs giveaway sign up with Uplay/follow the link to claim a free copy of Watch Dogs. Valid November 7, 2017 7:00 AM - November 13, 2017 10:00 AM. My understanding is that this isn't a "free week" event where you lose access to the game when the event ends; rather, it appears this is a straight giveaway like the link says. Seems I last used Ubisoft's launcher in early 2012, when I gave up on the Original Assassin's Creed.

I suspect my OC'd 860K probably doesn't cut it for Watch Dogs, even though it was good enough TW3. Only eight years old (:

I know Inherit The Earth has a Webcomic that's been going on since 2014, if you were interested in reading the webcomic continuation of the game.

Thanks, yeah I know about the web comic,
It looks neat, it's nice the story is continued is some way.

I think it be odd if they just "Telltale" it, as some of those feels linear,
as I miss the free roam things from the old point and click games.

If there was a remake/remastered or they made sequels of Inherit the Earth,
I hope it have that 90's look and style still,
like how the Paradigm game came out,
It's a new point and click game,
but it's tones, looks and feels like it was made in the 90's
and it is good and funny game too.

Nights of Azure 2 Bride of the New Moon

<3

Nero, so cute! =^_^=

Edit:

Odd, Nintendo Switch does not seem to keeping track of playtime at all. Glitch?

Edit 2:

Drinking the chocolate drink twice in a row crashed the game. Tried again, but it was fine. Odd.

So how long until they get buried? The EA catacomb's getting pretty full.

Next poor game sales, I'm guessing.

I'm wondering how Intel video cards would work out, since people interested already have Nvidia and AMD cards as an option. I'm going to guess that people with Intel CPU's would probably already have support for video card drivers.
