Many years ago when I was in Middle School our Social Studies class was given the assignment to research and give a presentation on a person from the either the Roman or Greek Mythos. They could be a real person or fictional as long as they were from that era.
Naturally most people chose a god like Zeus or Apollo. Other people chose noted scholars like Plato or Hippocrates. Myself, I had always been fascinated with the legend of the Minotaur. While the Minotaur himself fascinated me, his origins had always fascinated me more. After a bit of research I settled on making my report on Pasiphaë, the Wife of King Minos and Mother of the Minotaur.
I received an A+ on my report, but was asked not to present my extensive illustrations of the mechanical creation it was believed that Pasiphaë had the master craftsman Daedalus create. It was essentially a sophisticated modification of a torture device used around the time called the Brazen Bull, a hollow bronze cow that was used to roast people alive. Instead this one was designed to allow the Bull to mount and inside Pasiphaë would be able to consummate with the bull with ease and safety. After that I read more about the Greek and Roman Mythology and found that apparently the Gods were quite freaky and that Zeus in particular liked to take the form of animals and molest and even rape poor human women. I credit it with eventually leading me to the realm of anthropomorphism and furry fandom.
