ah thanks for the heads up thats was super helpful. but they still have a lot to fix up and polish

My biggest problem with the update is that the web address only shows the post number and not the artist anymore. When you keep a dozen or so ongoing comics bookmarked on their current page it becomes impossible to know which is what.

If there is a way around this I'd love to know.

Feature request: Add an option to turn off the search query carrying over to post pages. I'm sure it can be useful but not for me, and the extra clutter it creates alongside needlessly making the URL longer is a minus.

Also, what happened to the forums? For a brief time shortly after the redesign dropped the layout got thinner to not be as wide as the monitor, but now it's back to being super wide and unpleasant to read. Plus the username/avatar layout was better in that it allowed longer usernames without breaking them.

Seconded! The last thing I want when I link an e621 page is everyone seeing what stupid search I was browsing when I found it, so I have to manually edit the link text every time.

The favorite/unfavorite button should be color coded again
I’ve accidentally unfavorited many posts because it’s not completely obvious I’ve already favorited it at a short glance

Why is the children and pool listing hidden at the bottom of the page now?

I would greatly appreciate the resize image option to be on the left bar of the website under options rather than beneath the image itself. When opening large images you have to scroll ALL the way down and find the bottom before being able to actually resize the image properly. Of course this is way worse on the mobile version as well since ALL the tags and information is shoved down beneath the picture too.

can we get an option to go back? I liked e6 just fine the way it was and have found myself avoiding the website since the change.

Can we please be able to collapse the blacklist again - last thing I need to see is the list of stuff I dont want to see...

The admins really should make a dedicated F.A.Q announcement containing all the explanations they’ve answered other people’s questions with.

Here’s the gist of what I’ve read:

Q: Can we get the old layout back, or at least the option to revert?
A: No.

Q: Why not?
A: The old layout’s code was a highly outdated mess. It’s incompatible with the new redesign because everything has been completely rewritten from the ground up.

Q: Then why bother changing it at all? Don’t you know the saying “Don’t fix what ain’t broken?”
A: From the user’s perspective, yes, the site was a-okay and everything was great. However, from the maintenance and technical side of things, the site were, according to NotMeNotYou, “running on wishes and prayers with spaghetti code so terrible trying to fix a security exploit in dtext where html code wasn't getting properly sanitized damn near broke everything and took ages to fix.”

Basically, the old site’s code was being powered by an ancient force that had many critical vulnerabilities and was a nightmare to work with. This new redesign solved most, if not all those issues. Not only that, but now they’ll actually be able to add features to the site without the threat of the entire system collapsing in on itself.

Q: Couldn’t they wait until everything was complete BEFORE they forced the change?
A: I’m not entirely sure on the answer for this, but I do know that 2020 is the year where a lot of behind-the-scenes technical stuff is going to change. I assume that they pushed it out of necessity rather than choice, and if it was by choice, then it would be that they really needed more input, feedback, and bug catchers, but they didn’t have enough eyes or voices to get them all before an encroaching deadline.

Q: So we’re just supposed to accept the fact that the once totally awesome site has turned into this unholy bug-infested abomination so unfit to grace my eyes that it’s sheer hideousness makes me vomit blood?
A: 1. You’re overreacting. 2. It’s only an unholy abomination *For Now*. If you take a look around, you can see that they’ve been pretty much working on the site consistently since the release. Even despite all the toxic shit thrown their way by blue-balled douches, they’ve still been fairly responsive.

Q: I still don’t like it.
A: That’s not a question, but sure. I say just give it time. I also don’t like how a lot of things I use on a near daily basis are going through redesigns for the sake of “Modernization”. First it was Steam’s library, then it was Discord, now E6? Except E6 has a pretty good reason for its redesign.

The entire transition for sure could’ve been handled better, and still can, but eh, here’s hoping y’know?

Dunno if this was intentional or not, but my guess is no, so I'm reporting it. The source links in any image page are truncated and hovering the mouse over it shows the entire link as it should, but there's no background or frame around it so the text just spills over onto the main area and is tricky to read.

some of my suggestions:

1) here's a snippet for the "Account > Settings" page:

div#a-edit {
    max-width: 1140px;
    margin-left: auto;
    margin-right: auto;
}

2) in "Account > Profile", limit the height of the about box (height: fit-content) and move the user's favorites and uploads underneath it as rows instead of columns

People suggest this one quite often. We'll get there.

Well the general annoyances for anonymous users worked to make me create an account (The real point of some of the changes I suspect). I hope you're happy. Yes, I understand there are good reasons behind refactoring and global blacklist, but things like the 18+ popup and default blacklist are clearly intended as a nuisance.

If you call abiding by legal laws and conducts to be an intended nuisance, then sure. Making sure the site doesn't get fined and/or region blocked from multiple entire countries is most definitely, 100% intended to be a nuisance.

I can understand that it might be a legal thing to automatically block 'bad' content, but they have that 18+ popup already, why not add a second one asking to unblock the content? I'm sick of having to keep logging in everytime I want to browse. I want to see everything, whether I like it or not.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the list of highlighted tags listing other tags below then when clicking on "related tags" and similar having been limited.

I mean, it certainly helps make the uploading process faster, but at the same time it makes me feel that there might be something...missing, y'know?

I dunno man. I feel like that kinda defeats the purpose of the default blacklist. From what I’ve gathered from reading NotMeNotYou’s explanation , the whole reason why the blacklist and 18+ popup exists is so that all the government officials would stop heckling them about the content they’re hosting. I’d figure it wouldn’t be a good idea to have the second thing you see upon entering this site to be a pop up asking if you wanted to literally see the content that they didn’t want certain people to know they have.

Besides, if you keep reading the forum post there they say they are planning to change how the global blacklist will function later in the future.

“But that’s retarded!” you might ask. “They could literally just make an account and see all the blocked content again.” Well, heres the thing. That requires a person —a government official or someone who works for one—- to make an account. Then, they have to search for it. There are people who use this site on a near daily basis who think even that is too much of an inconvenience <_<

But for real though, I don’t know enough about their legal situation to say too much about it. I just know that having to deal with a few extra steps to see past a default blacklist is infinitely better than having to deal with a country-wide blacklist.

Yay, "popular" button has returned from it's banishment to "other" folder. That's a really nice change right there.

i really don't like the new UI of the site i would like to go back to the old lay out

Just coming from a person who views the material, rather than make it or tagging it, I do prefer the old layout. I liked being able able to post right away into the comment section of a given pic, which now I have to load the entire page again just to do that. Also, in the profile section, although its not necessary, I liked being able to see if any comments I made were up/downvoted

After a few days of adjusting to the new UI now, I've thought of some other things. Having the home screen page with the mascots would be nice to see return. And when logging in, having it take you to the account page/tab would be nice.

I don't think that the redesign is horrible, per se; I've gotten used to it, and I use bitWolfy's CSS now to bring back the feel of the old version, but the thing that I miss the most is the old home page with the mascots. This was a big thing for me personally, because I don't want to get bombarded with porn that I don't want to see and it gave me the ability to do other stuff before entering an ocean of NSFW content.

I just tried going to that site and it was re-directing me to all sorts of things, like some sketchy casino places. A quick google search doesn't make it seem much better. Maybe a link to the site you're looking at would be good so we know which one to check out and avoid sketchy and potentially malware ridden redirects? Please and thank you!

e926 is e621's SFW sister site. Pretty much just e621 with rating:safe. Ran by the exact same people as this one.
If you get redirected, it might be something on your end? A virus, or a sketchy extension.

Here's what I get for <malicious url>(this is not a site owned by e621, do not visit it) :

uBlock Origin has prevented the following page from loading:

<admin edit: removed malicious url>

Because of the following filter

Found in: uBlock filters – Badware risks

Presumably if I didn't have uBlock, the above url would have actually loaded.

This is very odd, I've double checked the server configuration and it seems totally normal. Can somebody reproduce this with the network inspector open with preserve log checked and get me a trace of the requests and send them to me in a dmail.

Welp, this helped me remember that I forgot to apply my filters when I re-installed uBlock a few weeks back. I REALLY hope I didn't get anything on my system after that. I cleared my history, cookies, temporary files, and checked my registry just in case. Malwarebytes and Bitdefender didn't come up with anything as it happened and I closed the URL after the first 1-2 redirects, so I'll run some scans tomorrow to be safe. But I'll be really upset if some stuff got gleamed from my system/browser that shouldn't have after that little mistake

Updated

The tag autocomplete taking aliases into account was sorely needed, but it has some amusing side effects regarding obscure aliases of frequently used tags:
white hair, white fur, etc. appear lower in the results than white cum, and panty pull appears below panty poop.

I really do think that this new version can become something very pleasing but there are a few things that I believe could change for the better. I know that many people took enjoyment from seeing the silly reasons people were banned but now that’s not an option. When you search favorites it does not preserve the order they were added. I really think that the location of parent/child posts were very convenient along with the back and fourth pool arrows, what I mean is the location on the page in the corner and the size and proximity of them to each other. Many many things have improved such as tagging and tag searching, it’s very clean and the morality of asking if you are of age is really impressing and I really believe if we keep at it, it will become something everyone can call home. May I reiterate that one of many of our greatest enjoyments is seeing the stupidity of banned users, many quality of life improvements have been placed and I know that the staff will add all the effects that the previous version had so it won’t appear as bland. I really hope that the staff reads every one of these because we really want this to become something amazing.

• Bring back the logo, home page, mascots, etc. They added a lot of personality to the site

• Use a different font. I don't even know the name of this one but it just gives me 'default font' vibes

• Comment boxes are too big (a one-sentence comment uses as much room as a 10-line comment). Maybe make avatars a bit smaller

• Spacing on some elements is too small. Go to posts and look the left section, it all looks really cramped around the search bar. On comments, the avatar and username look too close as well. As I'm writing this reply the header has almost no spacing around it either.

• The patterns/designs and the subtle colour gradient on the background went a long way to make the site look professional and add some flair

EDIT: I just wanna say, I was a bit disappointed to see the site like this, but I'm actually really excited to see what it might look like in the future. I do appreciate that you guys are doing your best to keep this site in its best shape!

New e621 not works on old devices. I can't see any image from ipad4 iOS 7.0.4

Same issue on iPhone 4s, iOS 7
On iOS 9.3.5 in the same phone, tho, it works fine

I personally like the new look, just something to get used to. The autofill and ability to flip through in the open file is also really nice. the only thing i´m missing is a possibility to use the arrow-keys or w/d to flip through, i feel like that´d be a nice addition.

Edit:
After this i went through the settings and saw that its supposed to work but doesnt for whatever reason so i guess its an issue on my end?
Am using Firefox on Win 8.1. Others having that problem as well?

Whomever put the names back above the avatars again. Thank you.

Although you did not do that in the comments for some reason

I wonder if the uploader name will ever be added back to the image info page.
Honestly I'm more interested in who uploaded something than who actually approved it. Either have both names listed or have neither.

I imagine they did it because too many uploaders thought they owned or had dibs on what they uploaded. I have actually seen some people (and one janitor) claim that them uploading it mean they had the final say on tagging sources, for example

Seriously though, the way blacklists are handled *needs* to be fixed.

I'm sick of checking comics, only to have half of them blanked out because the author is doing an establishing moment, and have to do an account wide disable of my tags just to see these pages. What was even the reason for this change? What was wrong with leaving pools with a blocked image, and then not bothering you if you selected it? And why does disabling a tag for a page or a pool need to disable it for everything?

One thing I don't understand is why there can't simply be a button to revert to the old theme. I see no reason to force the new one on everyone.

Short version, they didn't keep backups.

It's the same problem that other websites are doing and the same problems being caused every time. Run 2 stylesheets - one for mobile, one for desktop. Don't force mobile layout on desktop users. Period. I do not and will never own a phone made after 2008, so I have pretty much stopped using this website for the last several months because of this theme. Nothing is where it used to be and there was no reason to change it. Same with FA, but at least FA has their old stylesheet up you can choose as a theme so it's not an issue.

Yes this is because of the comments and ratings system, uploaders post "rare" or "popular" art for clout and thusly they take possession of it like they made it.

What kind of ungodly mess have you done to the "comment" section recently. It spams reading the roules before commenting every 4 lines, the picture being commented is the same size and placement as avatars. It cureently looks terrible. What kind of step back happened.

Also pressing comment or view tags still dumps you at the top of the page. Also the tags just being shown like before would still be better.

But design wise, waht happened in the last few days. It looks so much worse all of a sudden

Today's update made the site look objectively better compared to what was released a few weeks back.

...Are there any plans to bring back the actual tag counts (instead of having ???k)? I miss seeing the various tag milestones.

Any plans to bring back the ability to allow post uploaders and tag editors to return more than 25 tags when clicking on Tags and other options under Related?

It's nice to have the landing page back, but is there a reason why custom styles aren't enabled on it?

Your first comment is addressed in the Apr 1 news banner. Your second comment (and your fundamental confusion about the nature of the update) is addressed by the very first post in the sticky 'e621 survival guide' thread.

It's a lot better now after the monthly update. Hope they improve or remove the arbitrary caps that were set on a bunch of things.

Someone in the Discord mentioned that it was a bit difficult to tell comments apart from one another without a border.

I checked and it did seem odd that comments weren't visually separated, so I made this to add a small, mostly-transparent white border between comments.

-1 on this.
Use the existing keybinds a/d instead, left/right are too useful for scrolling sideways if the image is larger than window (common if you are not in 'scale to fit' mode).

(theoretically the arrows should already do this though, per the keyboard shortcut cheatsheet)

How about you make it left and right if the image isn't scaled to its original size? (IE, by pressing the Change size button or holding Ctrl while pressing </>.)

Why flagged posts have always blue border and not red like before?

Current CSS:

.post-preview.post-status-flagged:not(.mod-queue-preview) img, .post-preview.post-status-pending:not(.mod-queue-preview) img {
    border: 2px solid #00f; /* blue color */
}

Maybe add a default blacklist to the site that keeps consistent for guests that can be operated like with normal users, and such tags can only be turned off if you go into the blacklist settings manually. It would save complaints and having to CONSTANTLY tell users to change it unless certain things in the image are pretty out there to complain about.

In fact, make sure to tell the user upon creating their account they must use it if there is any content they don't want to see.

As for the Guest Blacklist, I'd say leave "less popular" fetish's in it - such as scat, gore, visible rape, or otherwise. I don't think a new user would want to be scared off if they look at the posts at a bad upload time.

It was an idea I saw on another site, but I can't remember where. Probably on one of the Buru's. It's a good idea, but I'll leave it up to the site coders.

The source link exists and anyone tagging correctly should have included it

I personally dislike the addition of the forward/back navigation on singular images. They make following a pool confusing and I don't exactly browse E621 one by one like Imgur.

Additionally, the site navigation is so cramped and similar-looking that I can't work out what I'm looking at or where I want to go. It's a hot mess. Perhaps for the next rollout some product testing could be offered to users interested in giving feedback.
