Topic: General bug report thread - bugs here, bugs there, bugs everywhere, come here and report your bugs

Posted under Site Bug Reports & Feature Requests

I have a bug where all images show up as text. Even profile pictures do this. It started about two months ago. I thought the site was just down, but it's been a long time.

Edit: I had an ad blocker on. I turned it off and now it works fine.

Updated

Site is running extremely slowly - circa thirty seconds to load a page. I have tried multiple networks, with and without VPN, and all other sites I have tried (SFW or otherwise) run fine; pretty sure that it's a server-side issue.

A Lot of videos are giving me really crunchy audio after about half a second of playtime. Using an iPhone 13 with iOS 17.7 on the safari app

is there a reason that staff editing a forum post will bump an entire thread for everyone? this dosn't seem intentional and, if it is, it doesn't seem very useful.

It is intentional behavior yes, behavior which I would also like to toss out the window

on mobile the pool gallery has all of the page contents in one column.

EDIT: also, the child/parent links under posts are fucked up, the thumbnail is seemingly 0px and the post info is missing.

I am having the same issues.

Huh, strange, did an update get pushed? (oh.) I guess the pools and parent/child posts traded widths :p

Yeah I went to gallery as well and it's all just one super long column.

Reporting same here for image thumbnails in people's comments pages.

Well, that's a little odd.
I'm looking into it.

seems like the removal of article.post-preview { width: 31vw; } is the source of the problem (from the foldable display change). not sure if removing that entirely was intentional since everything else that got removed in that change had something else added in its place.

Updated

Idk if this works as a bug report, but the pools page is just a single column instead of a full list.

Is that a new thing or is that a bug?

Look at the posts right above yours.

Yeah I don't entirely understand what that means.

The posts right above yours in this very thread where everyone is having the same issue. Cinder is currently looking into it. Also the post directly above you has a piece of code you can put into your css to fix it while e wait for an official fix.

Oh, well I don't know how to do that on mobile so I'll be patient and wait for the fix

go to settings -> advanced, scroll down, paste article.post-preview { min-width: 140px; max-width: 31vw; } in the last box, submit.

I keep getting Downloads::File::Error - HTTP error code: 404 Not Found when trying to upload from twitter.

Keep hitting submit until it passes

When I try to view parent/children of any post on mobile it just shows a dot for the pictures.

Seems a change was made that affecting the spacing of thumbnails for mobile browsers (android)- both here and e6ai; the rows of images are partially overlapping & pushed together center-right, various borders for status indicators (blue, green, yellow, etc) are not visible -

Update: seems the borders are back but the spacing of the thumbnails is still borked πŸ˜‹

Updated

Was there a recent change in thumbnail spacing? Because on android (firefox) there are now columns, but the first column is half past the screen border. If I lay the phone on its side then all 3 are visible, but it is still an inconvenience.

hey, same problem!

On Samsung Internet all the post images are strange, there are red lines between every row.
And three images on each row.

When I load in the site, the images are pushed to the right and I have to scroll to see them fully.

When I zoom out, all the text menus and everything are centered where they are supposed to be, but all the posts are pushed to the right.

I'm on mobile btw.

I thought it was a e6 problem until I loaded the site on chrome with no issues.
There's nothing in Samsung Internet that I can do to change this.
I wish I could show you a screenshot of what I'm talking about.

Would like to report the same problem, but on Android Chrome. Lots of overlap

Edit: seems it just got fixed as I commented lol, but now there's two pics in a row instead of three

About the 404 error of Twitter, is that something on e621 end or Twitter one?

Pretty sure it’s a twitter thing.

On the Samsung google chrome version the UI is completely messed up, it moved from 3 images per row with all the information at the top and bottom to a seemingly monitor based design, with 4 images and all related tags on the sides, making it extremely difficult to navigate on mobile.

On a side note I uninstalled the e621 app that was recommended at the top of the screen while trying to fix the issue, if anyone knows how to re-download it that would be great.

did you click the moble mode toggle button by accident?

Yeah I cleared all my cookies and everything, pretty sure they either changed the format or something broke

it hasn't changed as far as I can tell. I think the only thing that could be causing it is that your viewport is larger than 800px.

I know that Firefox is able to artificially change the viewport by changing the "font size" in the accessibility settings, but I'm not sure if there's anything similar in Chrome.

I'm not sure if there's any way to, like, elegantly force mobile mode. I remember trying to help someone with a similar problem in the past, but it was a really super hacky fix.

Is it me or something is odd with the post grid? They aren't aligned like they used to?

Not sure if this counts as a bug, but I have a bit of an issue with aliases that I'd like to bring up. Simply put, some tags basically can't be searched with because they have an alias that's not exactly the same. For example, the multiple_females tag gets swapped out for the female tag, and I can't find any way of turning this off or working around it.

Not a bug, that's how aliases work
Even if you could directly search the tag you'd find that it's on zero posts

I found the fix, clicking the 3 dots at the top of the mobile ui (not part of the website, part of chrome) and unchecked the box next to "desktop site" fixed it. I have literally no clue how that box was checked but hopefully my dumbass managing to figure that out helps someone else at some point, sorry for posting something that wasn't even a bug in this thread lmao

Posts are no longer in a neat grid. They're now whatever width they want to be, and it looks ugly and cluttered now. Before and after this change.

Yeah, had to ask ChatGPT for a help on fixing this client-side with a CSS Style customization. Here it is in case you need:

#posts-container,
#a-gallery > section:has(article) {
  display: grid;
  grid-template-columns: repeat(6, 1fr);
  justify-items: center;
}

Hovering over an image thumbnail no longer displays the alt-text containg the tags, even if you're logged in. It was still displaying the alt-text when you hovered over it yesterday. Is this a bug or has it been changed? The images have article id=post instead of div class="post-thumbnail" in the code.

I came to ask the same thing
If this was an intentional change it baffles me, because that was a very handy feature and it would at least be nice to have an option to toggle it back on in the settings

The labels beneath images....er...whatever the area with # of updoots/favs/comments is called is now all squished together on my browser, which admittedly is old ass firefox 54. I think it might be because my browser doesn't support the "gap" tag according to the inspect? The problem was it wasn't like that yesterday or even around the time maintenance finished, so I dunno if that 'gap' thing replaced something else

Posts displayed at the bottom of wiki pages are now touching each other, making it look like they're part of the same image at a glance in some cases.

Kind of an obscure bug, but I've been having this problem for months and only just now figured this out because I thought to check my browser console.
If you add a wildcard tag with an open-ended parentheses to your blacklist, it'll cause all posts to be completely disappear. Examples are as follows:
input(tag*
*inputtag)

I thought it was due to my browser. Glad I'm not the only one.

Yeah i have the same problem for a moment i thought that it was an isolated problem but i'm kind of glad that is not only me

oh I must have missed this post...I posted about this myself too as I fully agree. I actually rely on that function when it comes to seeking or avoiding things in animations. and now it's a hassle without it.

Why did I need to change my Username?? WTF did the admin forget how to write a web page?? ^^ has been ok for ages WTF

You could use the search to find specific things or to exclude specific things? You can have more than one thing in the search bar

The restrictions on names were tightened some time ago, a change is now forced on everyone that has an invalid name so things will gradually move away from those invalid names
This really isn't near as big of a deal as you seem to be making it out to be

This just started happening to me, now (on desktop). Seems it might be blacklist related, since it appears to only happen with blacklisted posts. Normally it'd have the Blacklisted thumbnail, but it's missing.

Yep

The C, P, and F (child, parent, flagged) are also missing.

It was an intentional change, but if people want them back Cinder might be persuaded to do so

I would heartily request that be reconsidered. I use those to help see whether posts are properly parented (or not) as appropriate, so I can know whether it needs fixing, and posts have been appearing to be not linked. The border color is not only too subtle, but can only show two at a time and some colors are shared or too similar for different states (they're also non-obvious; C=child, P=parent, etc, is easy, but what's green? yellow? blue?).

As a mobile user I don't particularly care. The post status is (was, that seems to have now changed) placed so far at the end it doesn't show up for posts with stats that contain two digits. Plus the colours are pretty apparent, is it not?

but can only show two at a time and some colors are shared for different states.

It is false that it only shows two at a time. See status:pending parent:any child:any. For the second point, the colors are only shared between pending and flagged because we are not janitor+, it's red for them.

(they're also non-obvious; C=child, P=parent, etc, is easy, but what's green? yellow? blue?).

Fair enough, I still have no idea which color is for parent and which is for child, though I know has to be either green or yellow. I'm not that anal about the direction of parent-child relationships unless the direction becomes important (and at that point I would already be on the post). Blue is already associated with pending/flagged (but that's just me), and Black is immediately obvious by other cues. (Also you've neglected the not that straightforward one in your example, what is U for?)

That must of been a recent change. Still, my other point applies. The border colors are too subtle, I have to focus to pick up on which colors are surrounding a colored image thumbnail (if the image doesn't use a background color that matches the border color), and they're similar (the green and yellow blend together to the point where I need to focus even more to see the different edges are different colors). The letters are far more functional and useful at a glance.

Recent as in before or after 2 years ago, because it had always been true whilst I was active

If that's how it is for you then yeah, you'll need it

.has-children div.desc .rating::after { content:" P"; color:white; font-weight:normal; }
.has-parent div.desc .rating::after { content:" C"; color:white; font-weight:normal; }
.has-children.has-parent div.desc .rating::after { content:" PC"; color:white; font-weight:normal; }

That unfortunately doesn't work right with less wide images. The extra letters end up underneath on a second line: https://imgur.com/sZQF2Di

oh, it looks fine on my end. must be one of the other CSS changes I've been tweaking...

article.thumbnail { width: unset; } seems to do it

Much better, thanks. It does still happen when the width of the status bar reaches its max, noticeable on a post like this: id:4871441, but I wager there's not really too much that can be done about that (alternatives being to dynamically shrink the font or letting it overflow/clip out, neither being particularly great options). It'd be nice to see this return as an official option at least, with U and F also restored, rather than having to rely on custom CSS that could stop working.

Tangentally, I don't suppose there's a way to add some padding on the sides of the stats for the thumbnails too? This happens without the restored P/C markers, they just make it more noticeable, but the stats are allowed to go right to the edge of the bar they're placed in, which gives the impression stuff may be getting clipped out, like with this post: id:5159946.

Updated

The reason the image thumbnails aren't displaying the alt-text is because the code considers them text links. The images have article id= "post" in the code when it should be div class= "post-thumbnail". Will this be fixed soon? Was this actually an intentional change?
