Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, but wasn't there a way to sort your own favorites by the date you fav'd them (similarly to FA)? I might be insane, but I'm pretty sure that was the default sort until recently. I remember whatever I just fav'd appearing at the top of my fav list.

Use the Favorites link at the top of the page under the posts section. It's not currently possible to search favorites and sort them by add date.

Hello I have a problem with the number of pages that are displayed, 750 although the category has more pages, you can then go on to the 750 but only one page, that's annoying not to see how much you have left

I'm relatively new to this site but I can't tell if I'm just stupid or doing something wrong with the blacklist?

I have blacklisted several terms, yes - all on separate lines. It seemed to be working fine until recently. Just today I was searching for a particular term, and right at the top of the 2nd or 3rd page there was an image with clear loli in it despite it being in my blacklist. I even opened the image to check if I'd missed that tag, and right at the top of the tags list it has a "blacklisted" drop down that SAID loli. So if the system is recognizing this is in my blacklist, why am I still seeing it??

Do you have JavaScript enabled? Or did you accidentally disable the blacklist? Both of these caused the blacklist to not work for me before. Based off what you said I would guess you accidentally disabled the list, since it still shows up with the drop down but wasn't blacklisted.

Did that blacklist dropdown have "loli" crossed out? Because that means that you have disabled that particular filter. Click on it to re-enable it.

How do you disable/re-enable the blacklist so I can make sure it's on? Thanks :)

It wasn't crossed out, no, but I'll try that next time to see what it does anyway :)

There is a toggle right under all the filters in the Blacklisted section: https://i.imgur.com/WChoQAy.jpg
Yours would look a little different, since I am using a userscript that changes some things, but the general concept is the same.

Does it not CURRENTLY being possible mean it's still planned for the future?

On another note, is it possible to disable the "post view search"? The thing that adds "?q=..." after a post's ID I mean, it's a feature I dislike as I frequently use bookmarks and this allows for bookmarking the same thing multiple times. If there's an extension that could resolve this (by way of automatically adjusting my bookmark's URL or something) I'd be happy with a suggestion for one.

I'm sorry, but how do I add an Icon/Avatar image for my account?

One of two ways:
1. Click on a post you want to use as your avatar, then click on "Set as avatar" in the options section in the sidebar.
2. Go to your settings, and copy the ID of the post you want to set as your avatar into the "Avatar Post ID" field.

cypress_cat said:

Go to the Account tab at the top of the page
Under Settings, you'll see something called Avatar Post ID

Now, look for the image you want to use. The end of the URL should have a series of numbers.
For example, post #420198 has 420198 at the end of its' URL.

Put those numbers in the Avatar Post ID in setting section of the account tab.

Sorry if this isn't the right place to put this, but e621 NEEDS to change its resolution "metadata" tags. Instead of "hi res" and "absurd res", which don't really mean anything and are incredibly subjective and always changing, why don't we have "4k" and "hd"? Or at least give us a way to blacklist everything under, say, 1.5 megapixels. It's completely stupid that an image that is, for example, 100x1200 pixels, is considered "hi res". We live in a world where HD is the media standard, and many people use 4k, at least for single images.

These tags aren't meaningless, and their definitions have not changed since ~2012.

thumbnail – (≤ 250×250)
low_res – (≤ 500×500)
hi_res – (≥ 1600×1200)
absurd_res – (≥ 3200×2400)
superabsurd_res – (≥ 10000×10000)

With the exceptions of thumbnail and low_res, only one of the image dimensions has to match in order for the tag to apply, though, which is why a post that is 200x1200 will get tagged hi_res.

You can also use width and height metatags in your search to filter out smaller images. For example, male solo height:>4000 width:>4000.

superabsurd_res – (≥ 10000×10000)

I mean the NAMES are meaningless. Why is a measly 1200 pixels considered "high res"? What makes 4k images "absurd"? How would anyone know what these terms specify without looking them up? What's wrong with HD/4k?

And I don't care if their definitions ON THIS SITE haven't changed, they've changed in real life.

With the exceptions of thumbnail and low_res, only one of the image dimensions has to match in order for the tag to apply, though, which is why a post that is 200x1200 will get tagged hi_res.

Which is misleading if not nonsensical.

Yes but it doesn't seem to work on blacklists.

Where is the proper place to put feature requests these days? A new thread for every feature, directly on the Github, or...?

The feature I'm wondering about is adding two warnings on report pages. One that warns the user if a comment, forum post, blip, etc. was already reported X minutes, hours, or days ago, and another warning that the comment or forum post being reported is older than the accepted threshold for minor offenses. I think that is either 1 or 6 months, with reporting something older than 6 months being a potential Abuse of Site Tools violation. These warnings would not prevent the user from making a new report but could cut down on duplicate tickets.

I find Github to be the most productive way to do that.
This way, the feature requests don't get buried on the forums or just forgotten about.

Don't forget the bafflingly common phenomenon of people reporting users who have already been permanently banned, sometimes for the very comment they are reporting.

How do I disable the mobile view?

There are multiple ways. The quickest (which also works without an account) is to scroll down to the bottom of the page and click "Disable mobile mode support".
The other option is to disable it in your (advanced) account settings, where it's called "Responsive Mode". Simply go to settings, click "Advanced", then disable responsive mode. Be sure to check the other settings as well, there's a few new items there that are pretty self explanatory.

How do I disable the gestures?

Second verse same as the first, in your account settings under advanced.

How do I get the old themes back?

You don't. Those are no longer compatible with the new site and had to be axed. Though we do want to bring them back one by one as soon as possible. However right now they're on the bottom of the list of things that need doing.

The current layout is terrible.

It will be improved and polished as time goes on. Getting the new codebase up and running had a higher priority than making it look pretty, simply because the old codebase was basically held together by wishes and duct tape, and was vulnerable to a few things on top of having atrocious performance.

If you're good at CSS have a look at this thread and feel free to provide feedback or CSS snippets, that'll help us get things polished that much quicker.

Change it back.

No. This is literally impossible to do as this was not a UI update at all, it was a full blown migration to an entirely new codebase. This decision was also not done lightly, but due to the ever growing pains of trying to keep the page functional on an entirely inadequate software for the sheer size of our page.

What is the plan for the near future?

Currently the plan is likely another day or two of critical bug fixing (we've identified a few more things that were working in the beta but magically aren't right now), and afterwards directly tackle the UI. We hope to have things much more consistent on all clients before next week is over.

So, what are the new features?

In short:

  • maximum of 40 search terms at once
  • no more length limit to the blacklist
  • all pages load faster
  • custom backdrop behind all submissions to ensure that transparency isn't letting our background color shine through, making transparent images easier to see.
  • Lore tag to supplement TWYS (not yet fully set up due to me being busy collecting bug reports, but soon!)
  • We're now Open Source

Oh hello, I'm new on this but i noticed that i can't leave comments, i just can reply and vote up. Is a bug?

Apparently not, since you left a comment one hour after writing that post.

It seems weird to me that someone would get banned for saying something but the thing they said that got them banned gets to remain on the website. Wouldn't that issue be resolved if the offending comment was just removed/hidden?

Have I missed something?...

Kind of new to the forums, sorry if this is the incorrect post to ask this...

Information: The number of countable pictures does NOT match the actual number of displayed pictures to the right side for SOME artist-tag names.
(Example 1: As of 29-september-2022, artist BlackJR (https://e621.net/posts?tags=blackjr) has 570 images, but when counted, the total amount of visible uploaded files from this artist are 354, instead of the claimed 570 images. I CHECKED HAVING NO BLACKLISTS, checked using no account either, and checked using different browsers, and the issue still persists).
(Example 2: https://e621.net/posts?tags=sssonic2 ... Claims to have 3447 images for the artists, but when counted gives only 3352 as total).

Question: Is this a bug? ... Or a feature that I dont understand (and somehow the claimed total of images in fact EXIST on the site SOMEWHERE)?

darkdiamond1 said:

It's a bug. The number of posts is cached using some highly unreliable algorithm, and it gets out of sync regularly. I've seen tags with negative numbers before. Users ranked Janitor and above have the ability to force a recount for specific tags if you ask them.

blackjr has 566 posts, not 354. Not sure how you got that number.
sssonic2 has 3352, that is correct.
Both should be fixed now.

As wat8548 pointed out, it's a bug. This happens because the tags' post count does not get updated correctly when a post gets deleted.
The way that number is calculated had been improved recently, thanks to Earlopain's efforts. However, it can still be off by a few posts sometimes.

I wonder if, just as a stopgap measure, the site could compare the maximum page number of results to the claimed maximum number of images at page fetch time and force a recount if they obviously conflict?

(Also, speaking of bugs, I got "The database timed out running your query" when attempting to post this the first time. Despite that, the post was apparently successful.)
