Topic: [Advice Wanted] Weird glory_hole-related tangle of tags

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

This is half vent-post, half request for advice.
If this is too wordy for you, skim it for the bolded text.

Overview:
There’s 2 scenarios that I’m currently aware of that often require several similar tags. As a result, taggers often miss some tags, making users need to search for far too many keywords at once if they want to find the desired art.

These scenarios are “character has a body part through some kind of barrier” and “character has been placed on some sort of bondage structure.”

To help those searches, I was thinking about modifying/creating a ‘main’ tag, which is implied by all the others.
through_wall (after being renamed to through_barrier for clarity) for “bodypart(s) through a barrier,”
(modified wiki page included. see next reply)
and
sex_structure, used with bdsm or bound to find the “bondage structure” scenario.
(worried that this is too vague. Is it? Doesn’t automatically include bondage scenarios because I’d also like to be able to find breeding_stand posts.)

But then I’m worried that this’ll just add more complexity to the tag clusterfuck.
That’s why I’m posting this here. Before I implement the above changes, I’d prefer to get the go-ahead from someone who actually knows what they’re doing.

Time for the rant half.
Here’s what users currently have to search in order to find these scenarios:
For “bodypart(s) through a barrier,” you’d have to look for ~through_wall ~public_use ~glory_hole ~kabeshiri ~sex_box ~stuck, etc.

For “character on a bondage structure,” you’d have to look for ~stocks ~rape_rack ~breeding_stand ~fuck_bench ~bondage_furniture, etc.
(And bondage_furniture is a very new tag. It doesn’t even have a wiki description.)

Oh - did I mention? When a character’s bound in stocks, the two scenarios intersect.

It doesn’t help that, despite often occurring together, almost none of the tags directly implicate each other. A character can be up for public_use, but not stuck permanently, not necessarily in a glory_hole, and, as long as none of its parts are through a wall, not through_wall.
This, of course, stymies most efforts to find the art you want.

I’m not even sure I found all of the applicable tags, and there’s all these arbitrary differences between them.
ex: the difference between a breeding_stand and a fuck_bench is the amount of body weight supported by the structure. Madness!

Current progress:
-Made request for kabeshiri and reverse_kabeshiri to implicate through_wall. Cleaning up the tags.

Updated

WIP: New through_wall wiki page. Thoughts?

(Note: Alias through_wall to through_barrier, so its use makes more sense for taggers who don’t read the wiki.)

post #3616812 post #2127550 post #1181007 post #2168222

When any part of a character is inside/through an object, surface, or wall. This usually, but not necessarily, binds the character, and is often seen in public_use scenarios.

Explanation:
-reference images show the wide variety of applicable scenarios, though I wish I could find more m/m images. I’d definitely include another good m/m example if anyone has one.
-description updated to be more concise.
—‘object’ being first means it’s obvious that stocks and sex_box should imply this tag
—only a single appendage being required means all glory_holes fall under this tag, allowing for another implication
-‘see also’ updated to include as many related tags as I can find

Updated

The bulk update request #3585 is pending approval.

mass update through_wall -> through_barrier
create implication kabeshiri (3) -> through_barrier (0)
create implication reverse_kabeshiri (97) -> through_barrier (0)
create implication stocks (3534) -> through_barrier (0)
create implication glory_hole (6841) -> through_barrier (0)
create implication sex_box (385) -> through_barrier (0)

Reason: Trying to clean up these godawful tag tangles. 1 of 2, see topic #36147.

Related discussions can be found in topic #36145, topic #33461, topic #36166, and topic #36168.

context: There's far too many tags that try to describe the scenario where there’s bodypart(s) through a barrier, with minor differences. This means taggers don't add all the tags, so I'm trying to give it a main tag to make the images and related tags easier to find.

Currently, for “bodypart(s) through a barrier,” you’d have to look for ~through_wall ~public_use ~glory_hole ~kabeshiri ~sex_box ~stuck, etc.

Change explanations:
-renamed through_wall to through_barrier - specifying walls in the tag name was confusing taggers that don't read the wiki.
-updating through_barrier wiki page to the 2nd post in topic #36147. This updated page specifies objects first, so readers don't accidentally skip over it, and that even 1 appendage (even just a penis) through a barrier is enough. This wide range of tags allows me to add these implications, which otherwise barely had enough differences to not be included.
-implied kabeshiri and reverse_kabeshiri to through_barrier. While we did discuss this in topic #33461, topic #36145, and topic #36168 (sorry for not discussing it there!), I only now realized that, with through_barrier covering a much wider range of tags, some people might want kabeshiri because it means the character is exactly halfway through the barrier, and also includes a specified kind of penetration.
-implied glory_hole and sex_box to through_barrier, 'cause both of those things require some sort of appendage being through a barrier.

sidenote:
I wanted to make stuck imply through_barrier, but the tag is so often misused that it'd just give more work to the taggers. For more info, see topic #36166.

I don't find that all compelling of a reason to not alias them. We have the from_front_position and from_behind_position (and front_view and rear_view) to indicate whether stuff is going to happen in the front or back. And whether the character is exactly half-way stuck seems a bit unnecessary, especially since that's not always the case.

Also, the existence of stocks, a glory hole, or a sex box in a picture doesn't mean they're in-use, so those implications are bad.
